Ted Williams, Tammy Smith, J.R.” Hall, Peggy Burris, Danny L. Conrad, Hazel Knight, Jean Thompson

Jean Thompson

Jean Lenora Grant Thompson of Piedmont, 80, wife of the late John Raymond Thompson, Jr., passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late William Roy and Pearl Waldrop Grant. She was a member of Freedom Fellowship Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Tracy Vaughan of Piedmont; son, Tim Thompson of Piedmont; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

 Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Friday, May 13, at Freedom Fellowship Baptist Church. The service will follow at 2:00 pm in the church. Burial will be at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Hazel Knight

Williamston – Hazel Davenport “Grandmother” Knight, 86, wife of the late Ray Haudy Knight, passed away Friday, May 6, 2022.

Born in Greenville County, she is a daughter of the late Capers William and Margurite Chastain Davenport. She retired from Cushman Mill and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class.

 Survivors include, son, Danny Knight (Debbie) of Belton; daughter, Tammy Richey (David) of Iva; sisters, Bonnie and Barbara Davenport, both of Belton, Mary Phillips (Ralph) of Princeton; brother, Larry Davenport of Anderson; grandchildren, Drew Knight (Courtney), Raechel Knight (Luis Mora), Amy Payne (Tony), Daniel Richey, Jennifer Neely, and Cheyene Richey; and great-grandchildren, Dani, Ellie, Brayden, Braden, Taylor, Ty, and Ben.

She was predeceased by a son, David William Knight and granddaughter, Kelly Lauren Knight.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to her sidekick and partner in crime, Ann Stroud.

The funeral was held Monday, May 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with visitation following. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lazarus Project, c/o Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1300 Anderson Drive, Williamston, SC 29697.

The family is at the home of Danny and Debbie Knight, Belton.

Danny L. Conrad

Danny Lee Conrad, Sr., 80, of Pelzer, husband of the late Betty Dees Conrad, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Born in Canton, OH, he was a son of the late Bud Bernard and Catherine Frances Harper Conrad. He retired from Dotson Plumbing in Asheville, NC.

Survivors include son, Danny Conrad, II of Cheyenne, WY; daughter, Rhoda Millette Conrad of Fairview, NC; sisters, Shirley Wagner of Greenville and Kathy Griffith of Pelzer; brother, Richard Conrad of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held May 10 at Gray Mortuary.

A graveside service will be on Wednesday, May 11, at 11:30 a.m. in the Peterson Family Cemetery (Green Mountain, NC).

Peggy Burris

Greenwood – Peggy Morgan Burris, 88, wife of the late John William Burris, Sr., passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Gustave “Gus” and Mittie Fleming Morgan. A registered nurse, she retired from Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by son, John William “Bill” Burris, Jr. (Harriett) of Iva; grandchildren, William Isaac Burris, Benjamin Lee Burris, Conner Green, and Bethany Joy Burris Patterson; and great-grandchildren, Isaiah Miles Burris, Audrey Elizabeth Burris, Gracelyn Patterson, Henry Daniel Burris, and Isaac Alexander Green.

She was predeceased by daughter, Elizabeth A. Green; sisters, Josephine Jordan, Milwee Rawls, and Nellie Ann Smith; and brothers, J.T., Harold, and Charles Morgan.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral was Wednesday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

J.R.” Hall

Marion Willard “J.R” Hall, Jr., 71, of Williamston, husband of Trudey Eileen Jones Hall, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Born in Falls City, Nebraska, he was a son of the late Marion Willard Hall, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Wallace Hall.  He was owner of Palmetto Décor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Marion Willard “Jay” Hall, III of Piedmont and Charles “Chuck” Rayburn Hall of Greenville; siblings, Patty West of Athens, TN, Jimmy Hall of Cleveland, TN Linda Suits of Cleveland, TN, and Debra Austin of Piedmont; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family will schedule a celebration of life at a later date.

Tammy Smith

Tammy Jo Caldwell Isbell Smith of Easley, 57, wife of James F. Smith, Jr., passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

   She was twice married, first to the late David Isbell.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Charles William and Mary Jo Mitchell Caldwell. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Riki L. Craig-Parlier of Liberty and Niki D. Isbell-Schoultz of Piedmont; brothers, Tony Caldwell of Pelzer and Travis Caldwell of Williamston; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation was May 6 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A private service was held.

Ted Williams

Valas Ted Williams of Simpsonville, 81, husband of the late Linda Lou Morgan Williams, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Born in Piedmont, he was the son of the late James Lewis and Hazel Pressley Williams. He retired from BKI Industries in Simpsonville.

Survivors include his sons, Ted Valas Williams of Easley, James Douglas Williams of Greenville, and Brian Lewis Williams of the home; sister, Gerald Dean Hawkins of Pelzer; and six grandchildren.

Visitation was held May 10 at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
