Williamston rezones 116 properties – planning for future growth

Williamston Town Council recently approved rezoning of 116 parcels of land within the town limits from Multi-Family Residential (MFR) to R-7 Single-Family Residential.
The R-7 zoning is a new classification the Town approved last year to allow for larger lots of 7000 square feet and plan for future growth in the town. The properties are located on Market Street and Brown Street in Williamston.
The zoning change on the properties was presented to Council after being recommended and approved by the Town Planning Commission as a matter of importance in economic development related to the towns recent comprehensive plan and future land use map.
According to town officials, the zoning change is intended to ensure more positive growth opportunities for the area than current zoning allows and consideration to the town’s current infrastructure for the area.
The Planning Commission recommended that the zoning map be amended to rezone the following listed properties, from Market Street to Brown Street for the referenced Anderson County TMS Numbers from MFR Multifamily Residential District to R7 Single-Family Residential District:

The Planning Commission also recommended that 26 Mooring Drive (TMS Number 244-02-07-005), be rezoned from MFR Multifamily Residential District to RC Residential/Commercial District;
Lot 2, Mattison Street (TMS Number 244-03-03-025) be rezoned from MFR Multifamily Residential District to RC Residential/Commercial District;
and 19 Jehue Street, Williamston (TMS Number 244-03-03-017) be rezoned from RC Residential/Commercial District to R7 Single-Family Residential District.
All of the recommendations were approved by Council during their meeting Monday, June 6.
