A request to rezone a parcel of land located at 602 Greenville Dr, TMS 2440206026, from Office Commercial classification to the Industrial-1 classification did not receive approval by the Williamston Planning Commission last week.
The request was to allow for conditional use as a car sales lot/tow yard.

The property is located next to property on Greenville Drive that the Town is in the process of purchasing, which has been the site of a similar business for years.

In June, Town Council authorized the Mayor to proceed with the property purchase “for economic development purposes” and is being purchased in an effort to improve a major entryway into Williamston.

Mayor Rockey Burgess said that property was grandfathered in at a time when the town did not have the restrictions it now has. He said the town plans to purchase the three lots, raze the area and provide greenspace, other municipal services or possibly market the property.
