SSG Robert Turner

SSG Robert James Turner of Williamston, 84, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022.

Born in Oklahoma City, he was the son of the late Julius Edward and Imma Beulah Snow Turner.  He was formerly employed with Dunk Pye Transportation and was a Baptist. SSG Turner retired from the U.S. Army and served four years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include son, James Turner; sisters, Mary Turner Bowen and Carol Ann Patsell; and two grandchildren.

 No services are planned at this time.

David Sloan

Piedmont – William David Sloan, 82, husband of Judy Ann Guthrie Sloan, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022.

Born in Walhalla, he was a son of the late Claude and Lillian Kelley Sloan. He was a U.S. Army veteran and former owner of David Sloan Carpet Center. David was a member of Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith for 50 years where he served as deacon, elder, and teacher. He was a lifelong musician known as the “Piano Man” to many.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by son, Tony Sloan (Carol) of Piedmont; and grandson, Codie Sloan.

He was predeceased by his brother, Harold Sloan.

The service was held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, September 11, at Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. The family spoke with friends following the committal service in the church cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith, P.O. Box 367, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Phil Henderson

 Phillip Andrew “Phil” Henderson of Pelzer, 57, passed away Monday, August 29, 2022.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Dewey Henderson, Jr. and Sadie Corrie Cothran Henderson. He was formerly employed with Pep Boys.

He is survived by his sisters, Susan Henderson and Diane Tolson, both of Simpsonville; brother, John Henderson of Columbia.

There will be no services at this time.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Durwood Boroughs

Palmer Durwood Boroughs of Belton, 74, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, at his home.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Paul Bryan and Lena Cavanaugh Boroughs.  He retired from the textile industry and was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran.  He was also a member of Open Door Church and the American Legion.

Survivors include his companion, Carol Scroggs; daughter, Tina Thrasher; brother, Ray A. Boroughs; two grandchildren.

The family received friends September 12 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

   A graveside service followed at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

Clyde Bruce

Clyde Haynie Bruce of Greenville, 80, husband of Sarah Elaine Woods Bruce, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022.

   He was twice married, first to the late Velma Fricks Bruce.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Clyde Leo Bruce, Jr. and Ruby Lee Evans Bruce. A U.S. Army Reserves veteran, he retired from Cryovac and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Michael Dale Bruce and Randall Dean Bruce, both of Williamston; step-daughter, Tammi Campbell of Greenville; brother, Tony Bruce of Pelzer; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was held September 13, at Gray Mortuary, with the service following in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens, with military honors.

Lila Lindler

Lila Mae Hand Lindler, 93 of Hendersville NC, wife of the late Francis Marion Lindler, Jr., passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022.

Born in Belton, SC, she was a daughter of the late Elzy Darwin and Iola Hembree Hand. She retired as a budget analyst with the U.S. Army.

Survivors include sons, David Mullinax of Mountain Home, NC, Ronald Mullinax of Floyds Knobs, IN, William D. Lindler of Laurens, and George Thomas Lindler of Cross Anchor, daughter, Karen Lindler Simmons of Woodruff; twelve grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Belton Cemetery.

John H. Lollis, Jr.

Pelzer – John Harrison “J.H.” Lollis, Jr., 86, widower of Thelma June Mayfield Lollis, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home.

   Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late John Harrison Lollis, Sr. and Lizzie Sargent Lollis.  He was formerly employed with Celanese, a member of the National Guard and Pelzer First Baptist Church. He loved to fish, his koi pond, the Clemson Tigers, Nascar, the Atlanta Braves, and his cat, Sally Mae.

Survivors include daughters, Janice Campbell of Williamston and Debra Williams (Dean Wood) of the home; son, John Lollis (Denise) of Williamston; grandchildren, Ty Lollis (Olivia), Tanner Lollis, Andy Thomason (Katherine), and Michael Thomason (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Guy Lollis, Mayce, Gage, Kane, McKayla, and Destiny Thomason.

He was predeceased by sisters, Nancy Mayfield, Pallie Finley, Edith Finley, Evelyn Cooley, Ruth Stewart, Essie Curren, Corrine Burgess; and brothers, Steele Dendy Lollis and O’Neal Lollis

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 15, in the mortuary chapel with burial following at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.
