Williamston police officers recently investigated the following incidents:
Aug. 23 – A citizen dropped off a pill bottle at the Williamston Police Department that had been located inside the Town of Williamston which contained three off white crystal “shards” weighing less than a gram. The pill bottle and “shards” were placed into evidence for destruction. Reporting officer was Lt. L. B. Culbertson.
Aug. 24 – Hayden Lane Roberson, 27, 19 Edgewood Dr. Williamston reported while walking back from Pelzer he took a shortcut on E. Carolina St where he was approached by a black male by the name of “Robert” who asked him for cigarettes and money. According to reports, when the complaintant Roberson stated he did not have either, the male subject punched him and hit him with a chair. The supect also took Roberson’s shoes and $75. Roberson did have lacerations in different areas on his face and ear. The incident remains under investigation. D. Vickery investigated.
Aug. 26 – Officer C. S. Hopkins responded to Palmetto High School stadium where Jacob Bryce Smith, 21, 211 Turkey Trot Rd., Williamston reported his rental 2021 Buick Encore had damage to the rear driver’s side door and quarter panel. Damage consisted of a scratch to the painted finish in the area reported.
Sept. 4 – Williamston Police Officer D. Vickery assisted West Pelzer Police Department with an investigation at 108 W. Stewart St., in reference to stolen goods and an active warrant out of Anderson County.Tamara Lynn Patsons, 39, 108 Stewart St. West Pelzer was arrested and transported to ACDC.
Sept. 5 – Lt. L. B. Culbertson, Jr. responded to 225 Walton Dr. in reference to a burglary of a detached garage. According to reports, Al Rentz Jr., 223 Walton Dr., items valued at $2075 stolen. Missing items included a Delta Miter Saw, Skill Saw, Craftsman 3/4 Hammer Drill and 1/2 Drill, various Craftsman tools and a portable air compressor. Forced entry was gained by prying open a back window. According to reports, a witness reported seeing an older model gold color Chevy Tahoe with a metal trailer driving slowly along Walton Dr.
At 2 am on Sept. 6, Sgt. D. Hart conducted a traffic stop on a Gold Chevy Tahoe towing a trailer without working tail lights. The vehicle, which matched the descripton of the vehicle seen on Walton Dr., was towed to Main St. Motors for no insurance.
As part of his investigation, Lt. Culbertson responded to Main St. Motors and observed in plain view an air compressor that matched the description of the one reported stolen. A search warrant was obtained and many of the items reported stolen were located on the attached trailer. While officers were searching the vehicle, Serah Rainey Cartee, 34, 4 Shirley Dr., Williamston appeared at the storage lot and stated she was in posseson of the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop and that item inside the vehicle belonged to her and items on the rear of the trailer belonged to her boyfriend. During a search of the vehicle, a .22 caliber Ruger rifle was located in the rear compartment of the Tahoe. Reports stated Cartee is prohibited from being in possession of a firearm.
Items were transported back to the WPD where Rentz indentified them as his property taken. An EBT card with the name Mark Estes was found inside a tool bag that Rentz identified as his. At the time of the traffic stop, Estes was a passanger inthe Tahoe.
The information was presented to a judge and warrants were issued for Serah Rainey Cartee, 34, 4 Shirley Dr,. Williamston and Mark Anthony Estes, 36, 119 Carroll Rd., Belton. On Sept. 9, Cartee and Estes were detained by Anderson County Sheriff’s Office for the outstanding warrants. Both were transported to ACDC.
Sept. 6 – Following a traffic stop, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was seized and towed to Main St. Motors due to no proof of insurance. According to reports, the vehicle was observed with no working tail lights on the trailer. It had a temporary Alabama tag which was clear. The driver, Serah Rainey Cartee, provided a bill of sale but no registration. Cartee did present insurance information for a Ford F-150 which she stated was supposed to be transferred, but was unable to provide any of the paperwork. Mark Anthony Estes was a passenger in the vehicle. Sgt. D. Hart investigated. (The vehicle was determined to be the suspect vehicle in a burglary on Walton Drive on Sept. 5).
Sept. 5 – A warrant for trespass after notice was issued for Haley Brett Potter, 28, 35 Patterson Dr., Williamston after officer M. Jackson was dispatched to Dollar General, 526 West Main St. regarding a trespassor. The subject could not be located but was identified by two store employees. The incident remains active pending service of the warrant.
On Sept. 25 – Officer J. McCoy responded to 102 Pineview Dr. to assist Anderson County Deputies in reference to an assault. The victim, identified as Haley Brett Potter, was arrested for the outstanding warrant with Williamston and transported to ACDC.
Sept. 8 – Lt. L. E. Mulz was dispatched to 119 Williamston court in reference to malicious damage to a motor vehicle. Rebecca Shambria Marie Cureton, 27, reported her red Chevrolet Equinox had two flat tires. Puncture marks were observed in each tire. The 225/65/R17 tires were valued at $145 each.
Sept. 8 – Jackson Nicholas Miranda, 22, 647 Cherokee Rd., Pelzer was arrested for driving under suspension (3rd) after a silver Toyota was observed passing several vehicles at what looked like a high rate of speed for the area, in what is designated as parking space on West Main St. in front of Mineral Spring Park. The vehicle was stopped on Greenville Dr. just before South Hamilton. Miranda had nine prior driving under suspension charges and is facing another. He was issued a warning for improper lane use. The vehicle was towed and Miranda was transported to ACDC. R. C. Burgess investigated.
Sept. 8 – Dollar General, 526 West Main St., Williamston reported a shoplifting incident in which household goods valued at $200 were taken. According to reports, a clerk stated a black male wearing a red mask onhis face with bluejeans and a jacket came in with a buggy, loaded it full of laundry detergent and left the store without paying. D. Vickery investigated.
Sept. 8 – Officer D. Vickery was dispatched to 100 Town Square Center (Williamston Police Department) in reference to a suspicious male in the women’s bathroom. The restrooms were checked and no subjects were found. Awhile later, Vickery was dispatched to Town Hall in reference to the same subject being in the women’s bathroom. The report stated the subject was a white male and went into the women’s bathroom, locked the outside door and raised his feet above the floor. The subject was identified on camera footage and will be contacted by an officer.
Sept. 10 – Preston Rich Jackson, 121 Williamston Ct. #121 reported an Optimus GPS system was found attached to his battery. The GPS system, valued at $70, was submitted into evidence. Lt. L. B. Culbertson, Jr was reporting officer.
Sept. 12 – Warrants were issued for Jason Eugene Marchbanks, 38, 16 Dendy St. #A, Pelzer, for failure to stop for a blue light, failure to obey persons directing traffic and reckless driving, after a green Chevy pickup was observed attempting to turn left on N. Hamilton. According to reports, Officer T. Grate was directing traffic (with traffic control lights) at the school intersection and signaled to the driver multiple times to turn right. The driver (Marchbanks) advised officer Grate that he has been dropping his daughter off at the middle school for numerous years and he didn’t feel the need to obey the order to turn right. Officer Grate advised Marchbanks that since he refused to obey the officer’s lawful orders, he should pull over to the side and that it is an official traffic stop. Marchbanks refused to hand over his driver’s license and then gunned his engine causing the officer to almost fall over in the street, headed south on N. Hamilton, made an erratic left turn onto Roberts Blvd. Officer Grate got into his patrol vehicle and followed. The truck was observed crossing the double yellow line and going about 55 mph in the 25 mph school zone, then turning left onto Greenville Drive going past the stop sign at the intersection. At that point the pursuit was ended. Following the incident, Marchbanks called the WPD to complain about Officer Grate. The incident was presented to Judge Sharp and three warrants were issued for Marchbanks, who turned himself into the WPD on Sept. 24. Marchbanks was arrested and transported to ACDC.
Sept. 12 – Williamston Police Officers were dispatched to block off the intersection of West Main and Academy St. after a report of a large tree being down and that it had hit power lines, knocking out traffic lights through town and power to West Main St. and Palmetto area schools. West Pelzer Police Department was called to provide assistance to help provide safety at intersections. Patrick Kennedy, of Kennedy Excavating was contacted and stated he was not on scene when the tree was cut, but it was his company.
