Rev. Dr. Trenton L. Connelly

Rev. Dr. Trenton Lavern Connelly, 81, passed away January 22, 2023.

A native of Pickens, son of the late Ivy Lee and Addie Simmons Connelly. Mr. Connelly attended North Greenville College where he received his associate degree in 1963, Furman University receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1965, New Orleans Baptist Seminary receiving his TH. M. degree in 1969, and Luther Rice Seminary receiving his D. Min. degree in 1981. He ministered at West Union Baptist, West Union, SC, Poe Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, Clearview Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, SC, Cashiers Baptist Church, Cashiers, NC, Northwood Baptist Church, Greer, SC, Westside Baptist Church, Union, SC, and Praters Creek Baptist Church, Pickens, SC. He was a retired Baptist minister and a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.  It is his greatest desire that everyone who reads this obituary will also know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior so that we can all be united together in Heaven eternally.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Cox Connelly of the home; two sons, Michael Lee Connelly (Joy) of Spartanburg and Steven Mark Connelly (Tamara) of Taylors; a daughter, Linda Connelly Matthews (Mark) of Lyman; a stepson, Daniel Fowler (Taylor) of Williamston, SC; a stepdaughter, Dana Crawford of Pelzer; a brother, Rev. Randall Jack Connelly (Violet) of Easley; eight grandchildren, Cami Ponder Shook, Caden Ponder, Lydia Connelly, Ivey Connelly, Thomas Connelly, EllaKate Fowler, Sadler Grace Fowler, and Jacob Alexander; and six great-grandchildren, Makon Connelly, Malaki Connelly, Asher White, Remi Shook, Radlee Shook, and Juniper Alexander.

Mr. Connelly was predeceased by his first wife, Malinda Joyce Owens Connelly; one grandson, Trent Daniel Connelly; one great-granddaughter, Preslee Jane Connelly; and son-in-law, Joel Matthew Crawford.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Northwood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Jack Connelly, Rev. Jim Carpenter, and Dr. Billy Dickerson. Burial will follow in Wood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 11:45-1:45pm Thursday, January 26, 2023, at the church.

The family will be at their respective homes.

Billy Bagwell

Belton – Billy Ray Bagwell, 77, of Belton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 20, 2023.

Born in Belton, SC, he was a son to the late Berry Bagwell and the late Bertha Walls Bagwell. Billy retired from Blue Ridge Beef after 35 years of service. He attended the Belton Church of God, up until his health would not allow. He enjoyed shooting pool, making people laugh, but most of all, spending time with his family.

Surviving, are three sisters; Jean Vaughn, Reba Collins, and Mary Jo Bounds (Tom), all of Belton, nieces and nephews; Janet Page, Ricky Patton, Sherry Moore, Jimmy Vaughn, Steve Vaughn (Tammy), Chris Jarrard (Amanda) Jeremy Jarrard (Tracey); and great-nieces and great-nephews, Christian Vaughn, Jessica Baxley (Kobe), Josiah Jarrard, Justus Jarrard, Ashlynn Vaughn, Madalynn Vaughn, Elizabeth Baxley, Judah Jarrard and Chloe Jarrard. 

In addition to his parents, Billy was predeceased by a niece, Kathy Ellison; two brother-in-laws, Jim Vaughn and James Collins. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 28 at Belton Church of God with Rev. Norman Black and Rev. Chris Jarrard officiating. Burial will follow in Belton City Cemetery.

The family is at the home of his sister Mary Jo Bounds, 513 Forest Lane, and will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Saturday at Belton Church of God, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Belton Church of God at PO Box 642, Belton SC 29627.

Charles Brooks

Charles Bennie Brooks of Williamston, 98, husband of the late Betty Geneva Macomson Brooks, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023.

   Born in Carnesville, GA, he was a son of the late Omer Armenius and Adelaide Ellijay Abbott Brooks. He retired as a Supervisor from Milliken Cushman Plant and was a member of Williamston First Baptist Church. Through the years, he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was an avid gardener and lawn specialist.

Survivors include his sons, Mitch Brooks of Anderson and Tim Brooks of Williamston; sister, Jeanette McCurry of Ellijay, GA; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation was held January 24 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel, with Rev. Brad Atkins officiating. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate (Rainey Hospice House), 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Tom Chandler

Thomas William “Tom” Chandler of Belton, 86, husband of the late Sara Ellen Perry Chandler, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Odus and Maggie Lois Coker Chandler. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was formerly employed with Chandler Builders and he was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Elaine Wood and son, Ricky Chandler, both of Belton; brothers, Marvin “Buddy” Chandler of Piedmont, Ray Chandler of Easley, Jerry Chandler of Laurens, Edward Leon Chandler of Belton; sister, Judy Chandler of Fountain Inn; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service with military honors was held January 31 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson, SC  29621.

Dareen Coker

Dareen Kelley Coker of Belton, 86, wife of the late Kenneth Adger Coker, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023.

Born in Greenville County, she was one of thirteen children born to the late Sydney and Ozell Kelley. She retired from Loomcrafts and was a member of Beech Springs Church.

She is survived by daughter, Kendra Whitt of Belton; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held January 24 at Beech Springs Church Cemetery.
