Margaret Durham

Piedmont – Margaret Elrod Durham, 99, wife of the late David Donald Durham, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023.

   Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late James Trueman and Willie Brown Elrod. She was the co-owner of Durham Grocery Store and a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith, where she served as a former church organist.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Holly Welch Durham; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 

She was predeceased by her sons, James Truman Durham and Donald Daniel Durham; and sisters, Opal Morehead and Frances Attaway. 

Visitation was held Tuesday, February 14, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith. The funeral followed at 11:00 a.m. in the church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Kenneth Knight

Kenneth Steele Knight of Williamston, 68, husband of Kim Starnes Knight, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Truman Steele and Betty Jean Timms Knight. He was formerly employed with Cushman Milliken Plant and was a member of Beech Springs Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jesse Lee Knight of Anderson; daughters, Tonya Renee Knight of Gray Court and Summer Knight Holcombe of Belton; brother, Tony Knight of Honea Path; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was held February 14 at Beech Springs Church, with a memorial service following in the church.

Dexter Bennett

Dealous Dexter Bennett of Piedmobnt, 94, husband of the late Mary Sue Billingsley Bennett, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023.

   Born in Sylva, NC, he was a son of the late Richard Elmer and Ida Mae Collins Bennett. He first retired from the textile industry and later from Woodmont High School, where he served as custodian and attended Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

   He is survived by Granddaughter, Shadow Paul; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held February 13 at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral was February 14 in the mortuary chapel, with burial following at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

George Cantrell Mullikin

George Cantrell Mullikin, 88, of Greensboro passed away on January 30, 2023 at Clapp’s Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden. At his request there will be no services public or private. 

George was born on October 21, 1934, in Anderson County, SC to the late Roy Lawrence Mullikin & Mary Louise Cantrell Mullikin. He was a retired director of the CITI Group and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Mr. Mullikin had lived in Greensboro for many years with his wife Etta prior to her passing. George had been attending Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church for the last several years, where he made many new friends. He is survived by his brother, John Morris Mullikin , extended family in South Carolina and Thu Le Bray. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Etta Mullikin.

Buford “Buck” Bailey White 

Buford “Buck” Bailey White, 79, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023 at his home.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Lynn White and Greg Chastain.

He is survived by his three nephews; step daughter, Traci Tate; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 19 at 6:30pm at Bessie Road Baptist Church in Piedmont.

Turkey Turner

Thomas Cicero “Turkey” Turner, Jr., of Pelzer, 79, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Thomas Cicero Turner, Sr. and Frances Maryland Kay Turner. A U.S. Army veteran, he retired from Charter Communications. He was also a member of Pelzer Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by daughters, Leslie Turner Webb of Williamston and Julie Turner James of Alto, GA; son, Matt Turner of the home; sisters, Frances Turner McKee of Piedmont and Katie Louise Turner of Pelzer; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; mother of his children, Martha Bryant Garton of Pelzer.

Visitation was held February 15 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

   A private burial will be held at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pelzer Veterans Memorial at Pelzer Heritage Commission, c/o Larry Coker, 872 Cooley Bridge Road, Pelzer, SC 29669.

George Ziegler

George Raymond Ziegler of Piedmont, 84, husband of Charlene Ziegler, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

He was twice married first to the late Janet Ziegler.

Born in Bloomville, OH, he was a son of the late Raymond and Mable C. Ziegler. He was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran and retired from Fluor Daniel. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Robin Potts of Fredericktown, OH; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was February 13 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed in the mortuary chapel with military honors.

A private burial will be held at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Panee Dahling

Panee Daramuang Dahling of Williamston, 72, wife of the late Terrell Alexander Dahling, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023.

She was born in Bangkok, Thailand, and was a homemaker.

   She is survived by sons, Bon Dahling of Greenville, and James Dahling of West Pelzer; daughter, Teresa Dahling of Williamston; one brother; one sister, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

   A visitation will be held Friday, February 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

Jane McAlister

Williamston – Mary Jane Brooks McAlister, 76, wife of Tony S. McAlister, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023. 

   Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Festenia Dewey and Mildred Lucille “Lucy” Garrett Brooks. Jane retired as a registered nurse and was a member of Open Door Community Church. 

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Amy McAlister Pecoraro (Timothy) of Simpsonville and Anita Schwier (Andrew) of Greenville; sister, Ann Crawford of Greenville and Tammy Hamby of Williamston; brother, Don Brooks of Williamston; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Cox of Greer; grandchildren, Garrett Schwier (Libby), Gabriel Pecoraro (Ellie), Luke Pecoraro, Owen Schwier, and Eden Pecoraro; and nephews, Myles Crawford and Ben Cox. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 15, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

   The funeral will be held Thursday, February 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Open Door Community Church.

   Burial will be Tuesday, February 21, at 10:00 a.m. at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
