The Palmetto High School Athletic Department has announced the selection of Ryan Norton as the next Varsity Head Football Coach pending board approval.

Norton is a native of upstate South Carolina and graduated from Mauldin High School. Norton was a scholarship athlete on the Clemson Tiger Football Team where he started on the offensive line for two seasons. Norton coached for a year at Byrnes High School before accepting a position as a Special Education Teacher and Varsity Football Assistant at Powdersville High School.

Norton has coached for six years at Powdersville, three as Offensive Coordinator. Norton led an explosive Patriot offense that averaged 44 points per game, and finished runner-up in the SC State Championship. Norton’s record as Offensive Coordinator at Powdersville was 30 wins and 7 losses. In addition to his duties as Varsity Signal Caller, Norton has served as Head Track and Field Coach and Assistant Athletic Director.

In reaction to his new position, Norton said, “I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity that Mr. Binnicker, Mr. Roach, and the Anderson School District One Board have given me in becoming the next head football coach at Palmetto High School. My family and I can not wait to become involved and committed members of a strong Palmetto community. Go Mustangs!“

Palmetto Principal Robby Roach added, “Coach Norton was the right pick to lead our team. He has the knowledge and experience to lead our program to much success in the future. We look forward to working with Coach Norton in the coming days as we introduce him to the players, faculty and community.”
