Tammy Davis

 Tammy Christine Owens Davis of Belton, 57, wife of the late Michael Davis, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of John Furman Owens of Belton and of the late Wanda Diane Lollis Owens. She was formerly employed with Oppermann Webbing.

In addition to her father, she is survived by brother, John Owens, Jr. of Belton; sister, Stephanie Kelly of Williamston; and nephews, Drew Owens of Belton and T.J. Kelly of New York.

   No service is planned at this time.

Ashley Charping

Ashley Ann Charping, 23 of Anderson, wife of Devin Anthony Rip Charping, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Stacy Howell. She was employed with UPS.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Kamden Izayah Charping of Anderson; brothers, Brett Tallent of Belton and Austin Lamb of Simpsonville; sisters, Tiffany Tallent of Belton and Kayla Bourgeois of Simpsonville; mother-in-law, Michelle Charping; grandparents, Jim and Peggy Tallent, Connie Howell, and Papa Randall and Nana Ann Lamb; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held March 28 at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service followed at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Tifffany D.Ann Bell

Tifffany D.Ann Bell of Locust Grove, Ga., 54, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

She is survived by husband Brian Long and son Barrett Long of Locust Grove, Georgia, parents Dale and Ann Bell of Williamston, brother Greg Bell, his wife Abbey and nieces Annmarie and Evie Bell of Greenville.

Joe H. George

Joe H. George, 83, of Williamston, SC went home to his heavenly home to be with the Lord and his late wife Virginia George on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

He was born in Greenville, SC to the late William and Karrie George.

Joe served as a United States Marine and retired paper carrier for Anderson Independent Mail.

He is survived by his children: Joe Alan George, James George (April), Melissa Wages (Wayne) all of Williamston, SC and Jennifer Day, Jimmy Thomas (Tina) all of Pelzer, SC.

He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and his dog “Whitey” and cat “Stinkybrat whom he also loved.

He was predeceased in death by 9 brothers and 3 sisters, 3 sons, Douglas and Terry George and Ricky Thomas. A grandson James “Bam Thomas,, Jr. and a granddaughter Karrie Kay.

Full Military Service was Friday, March 24, 2023 at 3pm at Crosspoint Christian Church, 117 SC-20 Pelzer, SC 29669.

James C. Bell

On Sunday, March 26, 2023, James Clarence Bell of Belton, husband of the late Viola Burgess Bell, finished his 91-year earthly journey and entered his eternal home.

Born in Anderson County, J.C. (or “Buddy” to his family) was the son of Sam and Bertha Bell. He was a retired textile worker (Cushman Mill, Williamston) and volunteer fireman. He continued serving on the Cheddar Fire Department Board of Directors.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Clardy (Bob) and Susan Hamann (Jerry); four granddaughters, Kelly Young, Kristy Tilley, Allison Kennedy, and Anna Hamann; and three great-granddaughters, Savannah Young, Abby Tilley, and Hannah Tilley. 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Mae Creamer; and two brothers, Jack Bell and Bobby Bell.

During the Korean War, J.C. served in the U.S. Army.

He served Whitefield Baptist Church in many capacities throughout the years. 

Visitation will be held Friday, March 31, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Whitefield Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the church cemetery.

Leon Kay

Williamston – Clifton Leon “Boogie” Kay, Jr., 81, husband of Barbara Griffith Kay, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023.

   Born in Pendleton, he was a son of the late Clifton Leon Kay, Sr. and Ruby Lee Stone Kay. He retired from Milliken.

   In addition to his loving wife of sixty-three years, he is survived by daughters, Kimberly Kay Cheslak (Tim) of Anderson and Karen Jones (Eddie) of Williamston; sister, Donna Kay Owings of Greer; grandchildren, Nikki Horne, Sammy Horne, Jr., Brandon Jones (Mackenzie), and Anthony Cheslak (Michaela); and great-grandchildren, Savana, Nate, Jaxon, Joshua, Wade, Wilder, and the Jones twins due in September.

Visitation was Monday, March 27, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, March 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Old Slabtown Cemetery, 121 Bagwell Road, Liberty.

Jim Hopkins

Jim Hopkins, age 80, husband to Patricia Hopkins, departed this life on Wednesday, March 23, 2023 at Augusta University Medical Center with his wife and family at his side. 

Jim was born November 25, 1942 to the late James and Pauline Hopkins in Anderson County, S.C. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Hopkins. They were parents to one child, Melanie Leonard (Chris) who resides in Murrells Inlet, S.C. Jim is also survived by four stepchildren, Linda Barron (Brian), Steve Mills (Kim), Warren Fulghum (Bonnie), and Brandi Shaw (Ryan). 

He was predeceased by a stepson, Anthony Mills (Becky). Jim is also survived by three siblings, Linda Mackendree, Ray Hopkins, and Steve Hopkins (Debbie). He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Joe Camp (Joy) and a sister-in-law, Janie Bruce. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, James, Thomas, and Helen Leonard, Cody and Hailey Barron, Tucker and Tyler Mills, Dawson Fulghum, Waylon, Hudson, and Tristan Shaw, and Devan Munz. 

Jim began his banking career 50 years ago with the Farmers and Merchants Bank which later became part of the Bank of America. He retired as a vice president with Bank of America with 33 years of service. He then became a vice president with First Citizens Bank and retired after 3 years. Jim was a graduate of the S.C. Bankers School at the University of SC and was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. Jim was also a 40 year performing Jazz Musician in the Augusta, Aiken, Charleston, and Columbia area with Code 99 Doctors Band at Augusta, The Ken Dukes Band of Aiken, SC, The Harry Kirkland Combo of Aiken, and Bobby Tuba’s Dixieland Band of Aiken, SC. He attended the Grace Covenant Church of God where he was a member of the church orchestra and served as a church trustee. He dearly loved his God, his church, and his family and was always there for them. Jim’s favorite “original statement” was, “When he put God back in his life as he was raised, then God put life back into his life!” The family received friends and family one hour before the funeral service at Grace Covenant Church of God. 

The funeral was conducted by Rev. Edgar Foster and Rev. David Holdman Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. Interment was conducted in Anderson, S.C. in Forest Lawn Cemetery on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. A brief service was conducted at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Grace Covenant Church of God or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Milton George

Haskell Milton George, Jr., of Piedmont, 73, husband of Tammy Lynn Bennett George, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023.

   Born in the Williamston Hospital, he was a son of the late Haskell Milton George, Sr. and Mildred Louise Wilson George. A U.S. Navy veteran, he retired from Cytec Industries, and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Angela Denise George-Jarosz of Charleston; sister, Lynn Seay of Travelers Rest; and brothers, Rev. Steve George and Mike George, both of Piedmont.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral will be Friday, March 31, at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
