Walter Davis

Pelzer – Walter Paul Davis, 75, husband of Jo Ann Burton Davis, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late James Dorris and Etta Lou Seigler Davis. A Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, he retired from Cryovac and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Walter was also a member of the Pelzer Masonic Lodge #217 and was a Past Master.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Lynn Davis Turner (Jim) and April Davis Green (Chet), both of Belton; son, J.P. Davis (Ashley) of Pelzer; brothers, Jim Davis (Brenda) and Richard Davis (Tommie); sister, Connie Snipes, all of Williamston; and granddaughters, Crystal Green of Anderson and Tabbi Hanner of Piedmont.

He was predeceased by sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Eddie Motte.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 22, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral will be Tuesday, May 23 at 12:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with burial to follow at 2:00 p.m. at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Austin Butler

Austin Conrad Butler of Beltob, 29, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Terry Lee Butler and the late Tina Jodell Jackson Butler. He was a member of the S.C. Army National Guard and employed as a manager with Harvest Hope Food Bank in Greenville. 

In addition to his father and stepmother of Easley; he is survived by brother, Brent Gibson of Bunnlevel, NC; and maternal grandmother, Olivia Jackson of Faulkner, MS.

The family received friends on Saturday, May 13 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer the funeral service followed in the mortuary chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miracle Hill Children’s Ministries, 490 S. Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville, SC 29607.

Chuck Withrow

Christopher “Chuck” Lee Withrow of West Pelzer, 55, husband of Libby Gail Withrow, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Houston, TX, he was a son of Rose Marie Nichols Jordan and the late Ronald Lee Withrow. He was a SSgt and Chaplain in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife of Keystone Heights, FL, he is survived by son, Wesley Withrow of Keystone Heights, FL; sisters, Heather Westphal of Keystone Heights, FL and Jesse Jordan of Florahome, FL; son, Christian Withrow of Interlachen, FL; brother, Robert Larose, Jr. of West Pelzer; and  two grandchildren,.

   No services are planned at this time.

Jim Rainey

James Monroe “Jim” Rainey of West Pelzer, 86, husband of Peggy Ann Cooley Rainey, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late J.D. “Joker” Rainey and Gladys Louise Kay Rainey Wilson. 

He served for ten years in the S.C. National Guard and retired with Gerber Childrenswear. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Doug Rainey of West Pelzer; daughter, Brigitte Darby of Pelzer; brother, Gary Rainey of Pelzer; sisters, Mary Katherine Eaton, Debra Crump, and Marie Stallings, all of Pelzer; three grandchildren,  and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held May 13 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.

Ronnie Campbell

Ronnie Lamar Campbell of Nixa, MO, 70, formerly of Pelzer, husband of Brenda Lollis Campbell, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Jack and Betty Sue Walker Campbell. He retired from Michelin Tire Company and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Williamston.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kayla Hillhouse of Nixa, MO and Russell Campbell of Springfield, MO; brother, Stanley Campbell of SC; sister, Cathy Massey of NC; two granddaughters.

   Visitation was held May 17 at Gray Mortuary. The funeral followed in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
