Maria Hollis, the director of Piedmont Emergency Relief Center, was one of five women working in nonprofits awarded the Upstate Women Making History Bajeyah Eaddy Community Service Award. The banquet was held at Upstate Circle of Friends.
Hollis has lived in Piedmont for 40 plus years. She is retired from the Greenville County School District’s Transportation Department and has been directing Piedmont Emergency Relief Center since 2012. She also directs the Summer Break Café at Piedmont United Methodist Church for the last eight years where any child 18 years or younger can come and receive a free lunch during the summer. Maria Hollis is also a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church.
She said, “Piedmont Emergency Relief Center, the Summer Break Café, even this award would not be possible without the many, many hardworking volunteers that make these places of service possible.”
