Williamston Mayor Rockey Burgess recently announced that he intends to run for re-election. The Williamston Municipal Election will be held along with the General Election on November 5.
In his announcement, Burgess highlighted accomplishments that have been made during his time as Mayor and addressed a number of projects that are underway or to be started soon. Among those are revitalization efforts, infrastructure improvements, expansion of trail projects, improvements to Mineral Spring Park and Brookdale Park and public safety.
His announcement states:
“It is with great pride and gratitude that I stand before you today as your mayor. Over the past three and a half years, we have walked this journey together, working hand in hand to build a better, stronger, and more vibrant Williamston. I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve you and our beloved town, and I am here today to humbly seek your support for another term as your mayor.”
“Together, we have achieved remarkable successes. When I first took office, we faced numerous challenges, but through our collective determination and hard work, we have turned those challenges into opportunities. We have improved our infrastructure, supported local businesses, and enhanced our community services. Our roads are smoother, our parks are more beautiful, and our public services are more responsive to the needs of our residents. We have worked tirelessly to make Williamston a place where families can thrive, businesses can grow, and everyone feels at home.”
“One of our most significant achievements has been the revitalization of our downtown area. We have attracted new businesses, increased foot traffic, and created a bustling, vibrant hub that reflects the spirit and energy of our community. This revitalization has not only boosted our local economy but also strengthened our sense of community pride and identity. While much has been accomplished, there is still much to do.”
“I am also excited to announce that we are expanding our trails, thanks to a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). These new trails will provide more recreational opportunities for our residents and visitors, promoting health, wellness, and a deeper connection to the beautiful natural surroundings we are fortunate to have. This project is a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Williamston and making our town a destination for outdoor enthusiasts.”
“In the next 12 months, we are replacing the playground in Mineral Spring Park with new, state-of-the-art, ADA-compliant equipment, complete with artificial turf grass and a fenced-in play area. This will provide a safer and more enjoyable space for our children to play and ensure that all children, regardless of ability, can enjoy the playground. Additionally, we are replacing the picnic shelter at Brookdale Park, ensuring that it remains a wonderful gathering place for families and community events.”
“Public safety has always been a top priority for us. Over the past few years, we have increased funding for our police and fire departments, ensuring that they have the resources they need to keep us safe. We have also launched community outreach programs to foster better relationships between our residents and law enforcement, building trust and cooperation that benefits us all.”
“As we look to the future, there is still much work to be done. I am committed to continuing our progress and addressing the challenges that lie ahead. We must remain focused on creating more jobs, enhancing our infrastructure, and ensuring that Williamston remains a safe, welcoming, and prosperous community for all.”
“I am inspired by the resilience, creativity, and dedication of our residents. It is your passion and commitment that make Williamston such a special place. With your support, we can build on the foundation we have laid and continue to move our town forward.”
“I humbly ask for your vote in the upcoming election in November. Together, we can achieve even greater things. Together, we can make Williamston a beacon of progress and a model for other communities to follow.”
“Thank you for your trust, your support, and your belief in our shared vision. Let us continue this journey together, united in our love for Williamston and our commitment to a brighter future for all.”
“Thank you, and may Williamston continue to thrive and prosper. God Bless you all!”
