Local officials including the SC Highway Patrol, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and he Anderson County Coroner’s office are investigating the death of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in front of Wren Middle School around 7:30 pm Sunday.
According to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore, Darryl Scott Barton, 58, of Piedmont, was in the crosswalk of the roadway when he was struck by a truck that had struck another vehicle earlier and fled the scene, the driver of the vehicle was apparently traveling east on Wren School Road again, after circling the block.
According to witnesses, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the victim was struck. The driver of the truck apparently after striking the victim attempted to flee the scene again and was subdued by several witnesses and Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies.
The investigation is on-going by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner, the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
The Anderson County Fire Department, Medshore EMS, Anderson County EMS, South Carolina Highway Patrol, South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT Team, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the Coroner responded to the incident location.
