Earleen Campbell

Belton – Vivian Earleen Cobb Campbell, 91, wife of the late James O. Campbell, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by her children.

 Born in Pelzer on June 15, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin “BF” and Bessie Inez Carnes Cobb.

 Earleen was a long time employee of the Baptist Bookstore (now Lifeway) before leaving to join her husband in running C&K Grocery and Hardware until retiring at the age of 80.

 She instilled in her children the importance of loving God and attending church.  She was a longtime member of Daventon Baptist Church.

 She was dedicated to her husband and family. She was lovingly known by her family as “Merner.”  Her greatest joys in life were her “girls”, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was the perfect example of what the word mother/grandmother means.  She truly taught her family how to love and sacrifice for others.

 She is survived by daughters, Debbie Alverson (Lanny) of Greer, Sherry Childress (Ted) and Rhonda Prater (Rick) both of Pelzer; grandchildren, Chad Alverson (Stephanie), Jeff Prater (Kelly), Amy Hand (Brian), and Jeremy Prater; great-grandchildren Tillman and Tate Campbell Alverson, Alexander and Brynlee Hand, Kaden and Knox Prater and James Prater; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

 She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Earleen was predeceased by brother, James Cobb; and sisters, Sara McClellion, Audrey Starnes, Betty Taylor, Flora Taylor, and Shirley Harmon.

 At her request, a graveside service was held at 3:30 pm Saturday, October 26, at Daventon Baptist Church Cemetery, Pelzer. The service was officiated by her grandchildren.

 The family would like to thank all of the members of the Dunklin Community that supported and loved our Mom and Dad.

Jean Crawford

Dorothy Jean Knight Crawford of Belton, 86, widow of Julian Ray Crawford, Jr., passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Oaks at Chanticleer.She was born in Greenville County, daughter of the late Berry Lee and Maybell Turner Knight. She was an employee of Oxford of Belton and retired from Gerber Children’s Wear. She was a member of Washington Baptist Church.

 She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Crawford Spearman; sister, Shirley Knight Kennedy; two granddaughters; one grandson; three great-granddaughters, and son-in-law, Bill Pritchett.

The Service will be conducted in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary at 12 Noon, Wednesday, October 30, with burial to follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will follow the burial.

 The family will be at the home of her son-in-law, Bill Prichett.

Marie Clardy

Olive Marie Hiott Clardy of Williamston, 91, widow of the late James Fred Clardy passed away Friday, October 25, 2024.

 Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late William Franklin “W.F.” and Floy “Janie” Cartrell Hiott.   She retired from Williamston Manufacturing and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church.

 She is survived by sons, Bob Clardy of Belton, and Lewis Clardy of Iva; sister, O’Dell Moore of Williamston; four grandchildren, ; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 30, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.  The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Plains Baptist Church, 1435 Easley Highway, Pelzer, SC 29669.

Sara Chapman

Sara Frances Knight Chapman of Belton, 88, wife of the late Clyde Chapman, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

 Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Wister Eugene and Maude Allen Knight. She retired from Celanese Fiber of Greenville and was a member of Piedmont Heights Baptist Church.

 She is survived by son, of Belton; daughter, Kimberly Chapman Keeler of Pelzer; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Jones of Greenville; brother, Roger Knight of Pendleton.

Visitation was October 26 at Greenville Memorial Gardens. A graveside service followed.

Edith Black

Edith Merck Darnell Black of Piedmont, 88, wife of the late James Thomas Black, Jr., passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

 Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Townes Arthur and Viola Merck Darnell. She retired from Wren High School and was a member of Piedmont Church of God.

 She is survived by son, Ricky Dale Black of Piedmont; sisters, Ruby Spoon and Linda Mathis, both of Greenville; and brother, Darrell Darnell of Greenville.

 Visitation was October 27 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A graveside service was held October 28 at Graceland Cemetery West.

Patricia Harris

 Patricia Ruth Harris of Williamston, 72, wife of Wilton Lee Harris, died Friday, October 25, 2024.

 Born in Canon City, CO, she was the daughter of the late Edward Mack and Virginia Ruth Milsap Hall.  She was retired from J.P. Stevens Estes plant in Piedmont.

 In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Marilyn Bell; son, Charles Cothran; one granddaughter and one  grandson.

 A Memorial Service was October 28 at Gray Mortuary.

Wilda Turner

 Williamston – Wilda Glen Rogers Turner, 83, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

 Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Furman Eugene and Minnie Lee Mulligan Rogers. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

 Survivors include son, Jackie Turner (Connie) of the White Plains Community; grandchildren, Will Whitt (fianceé, Jessica) of the Cheddar Community and Brittany Miller (Shawn) of the White Plains Community; and great-grandchildren, Maverick and Jaxen.

 She was predeceased by brothers, Aubrey, Derrill, and Larry Rogers.

 The family received friends 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

 The family will be at the home of Will and Jessica, 435 Mize Road, Belton.
