Linda Watt

Linda “Slick” Diana Cooper Watt of Welford, 73, wife of Daniel Alan Watt, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025.

Born in Ithaca, NY, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth Lee Cooper, Sr., and Leah Mae Grover Cooper.  

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Kandy Stevenson Black; sister, Debrorah Preston; brother, John Cooper; one grandson and  two great-grandchildren, and granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Stevenson.

 A memorial service will be held, Saturday, January 11 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Sara Bagwell

Sara Louise Barbre Bagwell of Piedmont, 91, wife of the late Densel Mendal Bagwell, Sr., passed away Friday, January 3, 2025.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late John Belton and Hattie Mae League Barbre.  She was a homemaker, owner/ operator of the family farm, delivered flowers for Piedmont Floral, and a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons, Mendal Bagwell, Kenny Bagwell, Rickey Bagwell, Myron Bagwell, and Donnie Bagwell; sister, Lucille Barbre; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held January 7 at Gray Mortuary with the service in the mortuary chapel.  Burial followed at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Rickey Bagwell, 350 Wren Road, Piedmont.

Michael Henderson

Thomas Michael “Cotton” Henderson of Williamston, 73, husband of Nancy Lynn Hammond Henderson, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025 at his home.

 Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Thomas Troy and Mary Alice Calvert Henderson. He retired from Mt. Vernon and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a mason with Williamston Masonic Lodge #24.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Rebecca Henderson of Williamston and Marie Henderson of Greenville; step-children, Chad and Amy Sullivan of Williamston; two  grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church.

Billy Edward Golden 

Billy Edward Golden of Williamston, 93, widower of Mary Frances Shaw Golden, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late John and Bessie Shannon Golden. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Robin Davenport and son, Todd Golden (Amy); eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Gray Mortuary Chapel with burial following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

 Memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, 810 Maxwell Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.

Mary Williams

Mary Frances Hart Williams, 91, of Pelzer, widow of Lloyd “Pete” Williams, passed away at her daughter’s home on December 30, 2024.

 Born in Weldon, IL, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Levi and Leora Hart. 

 She was a member of Waycross Baptist Church.

 Survivors include daughters, Patty Moran of Piedmont and Dawn McCleer of Pelzer; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.

The family received friends January 4, 2025 at Waycross Baptist Church. The funeral service followed. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Jimmy Rogers

 Rocky Face, GA – Jimmy Rogers, 85, husband of Carolyn Rogers, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2025, at his home.

 He was a son of the late Ralph and Addie Lee Rogers.

 Jimmy was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church and proudly served his country for 33 years in the SC National Guard. He was also an avid bow hunter and collected many impressive trophies over the years.

 In addition to his loving wife of 64 years, he is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Suzanne Rogers of Colorado and James and Kelley Rogers of TN; grandchildren, Elliott Rogers (Christy), Jonathan Rogers (Allie), Tobias Rogers, and Olivia Rogers; and two nieces.

 He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Rogers.

Family and friends are invited to honor Jimmy’s life at a graveside service on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

 The family will receive friends following the service in the Lowry building.

Chris Cothran

Christie Frank “Chris” Cothran, III, of Belton, 76, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025.

 Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Christie Frank “Chris” Cothran, II and Annie Sue Revis Cothran. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and a master electrician. He was a member of Open Door Community Church, Belton. He was also a mason and a shriner. Chris enjoyed everything outdoors especially fishing, hunting, and dirt track racing but most of all spending time with his grandson, Sumter.

 Survivors include son, Christie F. Cothran, IV (Caleigh); daughter, Tracy Bannister; and grandchild, Sumter Lane Cothran.

 Visitation will be from 4:30 to 5:45 pm Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm in the mortuary chapel with military honors.

Christina Hartley

Christina Denise “DD” Hartley of Belton, 51, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025.

 Born in Dallas, GA, she was a daughter of Melvin Dwight and Alice Wanda Porter Hartley. She was formerly employed with Kelley’s Home Health Service and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

 In addition to her parents of Belton, she is survived by sons, Gregory Scott Russell, Jr. and Preston Lee Russell; daughters, Brittany Russell and Cassandra Russell; sisters, Melissa Hartley-Cederholm, Adriane Leeson, and Angela Hartley Bryant; brother, Jeff Hartley; and four  grandchildren.

 Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:45 pm Wednesday, January 8, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sam Coates, Jr.

William Sam Coates, Jr., of Greenville, 95, widower of Joyce Kathryn King Coates, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025.

 Born in Cross Hill, he was a son of the late William Sam Coates, Sr. and Elizabeth Charles Hill Coates. He was an air traffic controller and district controller for Winn Dixie grocery stores. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Taylors First Baptist Church.

 Survivors include children, William Sam Coates, III of Greenville, Joy Saylor of Roswell, GA, and Lee Coates of Greenville; sisters, Ann Wooten of Belton and Jane Walker of Greenville; sister-in-law, Joyce Coates of Ware Place; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildrens.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
