Suicide numbers up two since last week

Last week The Journal reported that the Anderson County Office of the Coroner had already responded to six suicides during the first month of 2025. Since then, the office has responded to two more, for a total of eight for 2025. The coroner’s office responded to 37 suicides in 2024.
There is help for anyone contemplating suicide. The National Suicide Lifeline is 988, which is available to call or text twentyfour hours a day, seven days a week.
The South Carolina Department of Mental Health is another resource within the county that offers many different services to help someone get through a mental health crisis.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore wants people to regularly talk about mental health so that we can break through the stigma of mental health crisis, and people will feel more comfortable reaching out for help.
