Pelzer approves one time business license for vendors

During their meeting Tuesday, (April 8) Pelzer Town Council approved new minimum area for lots, setback requirements, a new fee schedule for Planning and Development and a one time special business license rate.
In the police report, Clerk Cheryl Bates said there were 45 traffic stops, 65 contacts, 10 calls for service and 7 arrests made during March.
There will be a Summer Market event from 10 am to 3 pm on June 7. Councilmember Donna Ide is coordinating the market. They are now accepting applications for vendors. Applications are on the town website and fees can be paid by cash, check or credit card, Ide said.
Merchants of Pelzer are currently sponsoring a Golden Egg giveaway with prizes from most area businesses. Drawing for a winner will be on April 18. Councilman Eddie Waits and business owner Tami Brooks are coordinating the event. Waits said they have had great interest during the first days of the event which started this week. He said it is good exposure for business and a lot of “fun”. The event is not a Town sponsored event, officials said.
Mayor Will Ragland said the Town will be posting information for bid proposals for renovations on the Community Building and old Hospital Building soon.
During the business portion of the meeting, Council approved second reading on an ordinance regarding minimum area for lots and setback requirements.
Under the ordinance, minimum lot size for new R-1, R2/R3 Single Family and Duplex lots is 18,760 sq. ft. Setbacks are 20 ft. on the front and rear and 30 ft. on the side. Accessory setbacks are 5 ft. on the side and rear.
Existing lot area and setbacks prior to approval of the zoning ordinance will remain the same.
Existing R2/R3 Single Family and Duplex minimum lot size recorded prior to the zoning ordinance will not change. This includes manufactured homes, duplexs and townhouses.
New commercial lots must be 10,000 sq ft.
Minimum lot size for new manufactured homes (subdivision) is 10,000 sq ft.
Council also approved a new fee schedule for Planning and Development.
Council approved a resolution in support of a one-time business license rate for vendors. participating in Pelzer town events. A fee of $20 will be available for a one time food vendor and $10 for any vendor who participates solely in a Town sponsored event and does not currently hold a Town business license.
The Town’s regular business license fee is $40.
There was considerable discussion about the one time business license.
