Two people died in an early morning motor vehicle collision on Highway 29N at Cox Road. Anderson County Dispatch received an automatic crash notification from a cell phone at around 2:30am on Wednesday morning. Responders arrived on scene to find a head-on collision with drivers of both vehicles deceased.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore identified the victims as Mikhail Cherkasov, 57, of Honea Path and Dennis Linvel Vollrath, 24, of Liberty.
Preliminary investigation shows that Vollrath was driving a Toyota Rav4 when he crossed the center line and hit Cherkasov’s Honda Accord head on.
The cause of death for both victims is multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner of death has been ruled accidental. Both victims were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Anderson County EMS, MedShore Ambulance Service, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Broadway Fire Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, and the Anderson County Office of the Coroner responded to the scene.
The collision is under investigation by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
