Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore stated this week that suicide numbers in Anderson County continue to rise.
As of April 21, Anderson County has already seen a significant uptick in the number of suicides from 2024, with 24 suicide-related deaths in 2025, a 300 percent increase from the eight suicide related deaths in the first quarter of 2024.
“At this time, we have had more suicide deaths than we have had motor vehicle crash deaths, as well as overdose deaths,” Shore said. “Every life lost is a tragedy, and we want to remind everyone that there are numerous resources available throughout the community.”
Shore said reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and making mental health services more accessible is a priority. “We must all work together to ensure that no one feels alone in their struggles. We urge anyone who is feeling overwhelmed to seek support, whether it be from a family member, a friend, or a professional. This is an epidemic that affects all social classes, ages, and races and it can no longer be ignored.”
