Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested the parents of a six month old Belton child after the child was found with severe injuries from a field rat.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 6-moth-old little girl is recovering in the hospital after a large rat starting eating the child inside a Belton home early Friday morning.
Deputies responded to D and M Drive as soon as mother called 911, finding blood covering the bassinet and the infant. The bite marks span across the baby’s arms, back of the head, ears and face.
The small victim was immediately transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital and meantime, the Criminal Investigations Division began investigating, including interviewing the parents.
The baby is a twin and evidence shows her twin brother also has bite marks on his feet.
The parents admitted to field rats being an ongoing issue inside their single wide home for the last several months, however, they continued to allow their children to live there.
Detectives have charged the 24-year-old parents, Akayla Bearden and Justin Bearden, with two counts of Unlawful Conduct towards a Child, and all three of their children are now under DSS custody.
The 6-month-old little girl will remain in the hospital for several days as the case remains under investigation.
