The Anderson County Office of the Coroner is investigating the death of a teen who died after his truck hit a tree in Belton Monday.
According to reports, Anderson County Dispatch received a call at 12:50 pm today for a truck that had hit a tree on West Road in Belton. Responders arrived on scene to find one victim who had succumbed to his injuries.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore identified the victim has as Vance Kanter Schmidt, 15, of Belton.
Preliminary investigation shows that Schmidt was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram on West Road when he went off the right side of the road, overcorrected and hit a tree.
Belton Fire Department, Anderson County EMS, Medshore Ambulance Service, Belton Police Department, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol, and the Anderson County Office of the Coroner responded to the scene.
