Three Anderson County Deputy Coroners were recently presented with a Crime Stoppers Award for their work on a case involving a Williamston woman whose body was found in a creek on “A” Street in the City of Anderson on Mar. 19.
Deputy Coroners Stacey Sullivan and Katrina Williamson responded to the scene and it was discovered that the body had been in the water for an extended period of time. Due to the amount of time that the victim was in the water, she was unidentifiable by her face, she did have many tattoos but most were illegible, and her fingerprints were almost completely gone.
Deputy Coroners Ross Ables, Sullivan, and Williamson spent hours photographing the one fingerprint that the victim had left at different lighting and angles then sent it to ACSO Latent Print Examiner Robert Crowetz who was able to get a match just based on photos of the print.
“Without their hard work and dedication, it could have taken weeks or months to get a positive ID on this victim,” Coroner Greg Shore said, “But they made it happen in less than 24 hours. We are grateful for their teamwork and persistence in this case!”
