Mary Ellen “Nana” Allred, Peter Antone, Jr., Sandra Mardis, Jamey Robertson, Cheyenne Martinson, Tonya Currens, Kat Russell, Rodney Brown

Rodney Brown

Rodney Bennet Brown of Belton, 66, husband of Regina Faith Fountain Brown, passed away Monday, June 9, 2025.

Born in Columbus, GA, he was a son of the late Bennie Frank and Irma Jean McFarland Brown. Rodney grew up in the Alabama Children’s Home and was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Greathouse whom he considered mom and dad. He graduated high school in 1977 from Alabama Children’s Home. He then graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Troy State University and a Master’s Degree from Mississippi State University. He had also completed part of his Doctorate Degree from Louisiana State University and retired from IVC.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Summer Brown, Cheyenne Brown, Mackenzie Brown, Brittany Mays, Katelyn Brown, Erin Brown, and Harley Brooks (William); sister, Reneé Brown-Cotten (Harlon); and sister-in-law, Barbara Brown.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kat Russell

Mary Kathryn “Kat” McAbee Russell of Belton, 83, wife of the late James Edward Russell, passed away Friday, June 6, 2025.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Zabert and Effie Turner McAbee. She was the former CEO/CFO for both, Russell Plumbing and Owl Cove Carvers. 

She is survived by children, Edward Daniel Russell, Kathleen Ann Crooms, Christopher Merritt Russell, James Jerome Russell and Suzanne Pam Pervin; sister, Brenda Gayle Pennington; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.

Tonya Currens

 Tonya Michelle Pridmore Currens of Williamston, 55, wife of Kevin Hamilton Currens, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025 at her home.

 Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of Brenda Sue Shackelford Pridmore and the late William Dennis Pridmore. She was employed with Piedmont Post Acute. 

 In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by daughters, Hayley Currens and Savannah Currens; son, Awston Currens; brother, Billy Pridmore; and three grandchildren.

 The family received friends June 5 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A cryptside service with entombment followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

 The family is at the home of Todd and Tonya Currens, 5913 Midway Road, Williamston.

Cheyenne Martinson

Kristin Cheyenne Moon Martinson of Belton, 28, wife of Peter Joseph Martinson, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Patricia Lynn Bell Coker. She was employed with the Greenville VA Outpatient Clinic. 

In addition to her husband and step-father, John Michael “Mike” Coker who helped raise her, she is survived by son, Bentley Owen Martinson; brother, Micheal Coker; brothers, Jason Moon, and Jamie Moon.

At the time of her death, Cheyenne also lost her infant daughter, Millie Lynn Martinson.

The family received friends June 8 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jamey Robertson

Michael “Jamey” James Robertson, Jr., of Pelzer, 39, husband of Ashley Michelle Cayton Robertson, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025.

Born in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the son of Michael James Robertson, Sr., and Kellie Elizabeth Prescott Cooley. He was employed with Tricor Construction.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by daughter, Emma Bae Robertson; son; Briar Robertson; and stepdaughter, Marissa Frey; sister, Sarah Hedlund; stepbrothers, Jason Ellis, Justin Cooley, Devan Cooley; stepsister, Desiree Cooley; stepfather, Ken Cooley; and father-in-law, Steven Cayton.

 A private service will be held.

Sandra Mardis

Sandra Kay Knox Mardis of Williamston, 79, widow of Wayne Mardis, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

Born in Easley, she was a daughter of the late Walter Hawood and Clara Mae Edens Knox. 

Survivors include daughters, Wendy Heatherly and Christi Rankin; four grandchildren, and sister, Shelvia Moody.

The family will receive friends 1:00 – 1:45 pm on Saturday, June 14, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Palce, Memphis, TN 38105.

Peter Antone, Jr.

 Peter “Pete” Carl Antone, Jr., of Pelzer, 78, widower of Lisa Rebecca Davis Antone, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025.

 Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Peter and Myrtle Peace Crook Antone. He retired from Duke Power and the United States Navy as a Seabee.

 Survivors include sons, Rev. Kile Antone and Joshua Lee Antone; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen “Nana” Allred

 Mary Ellen “Nana” Allred, born February 4, 1926, beloved wife of the late Royal Allred Jr., passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

Born in Pelzer, South Carolina, she was the fourth of six children of Lewis Adger Whitten and Lila Mae Spence. Ellen dedicated her career to serving others, first as the school secretary at Williamston Elementary School and later as the secretary to the CEO of Kendall Corporation. She was a devoted member of Williamston First Baptist Church, where she shared her faith as a Sunday School teacher for youth. In retirement, she moved to Greenville, South Carolina, and became a member of Pelham Road Baptist Church. Ellen and Roy cherished their retirement years by traveling extensively together.

She is survived by her son, Bruce (Sharon) Allred of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina; granddaughter, Candice (Joshua) Varnado, and their children, John Michael and Luke, of Canton, Georgia; and grandson, Brent (Rachel) Allred, and their children, Davis, Greer, and Sarah Kate, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

Ellen was preceded in death by her brothers, Milford, Adger, and John, as well as her sisters, Inez and Frances.

A visitation was held on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Wood Mortuary in Greer, South Carolina, followed by a service at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Wood Memorial Park immediately afterward.

Flowers are welcome, and memorial contributions may be made to Pelham Road Baptist Church, 1108 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
