Kevin Schwenneker, Rachel McAlister Hill, Jesse Morrison, Brenda Faye Cleveland, Alphesus “Al” Watson Rentz, Jr.

Alphesus “Al” Watson Rentz, Jr.

Williamston – Alphesus “Al” Watson Rentz, Jr., 67, husband of Diane Brown Rentz, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Alphesus “Watson” Rentz, Sr. and Iris Elaine Lyon Rentz. Al was formerly employed with Huttig Building Products and attended Hillcrest Baptist Church.

He cherished his life on the farm and loved every minute spent on a tractor. He enjoyed his garden, baking and canning. Al spent many years serving as a board member for the S.C. Farm Bureau and the Big Creek Watershed. He had the most giving heart and was always there to lend a hand.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Ashley Acuff (David) and Lauren Travis (Kendrick); grandsons, Luke Acuff and Drake Acuff; and sister, Nancy Crawford (Charles).

Visitation was held Tuesday, July 15 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 16 at 3:00 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Ricky Bagwell

William Richard “Ricky” Bagwell of Pelzer, 61, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late William Anderson and Ellie Juanita Davis Bagwell. He was employed with Piggly Wiggly in Ware Shoals and a member of Pelzer Church of God. 

The funeral service will be held Friday, July 18 at 1:00 pm at Pelzer Church of God with burial to follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Brenda Faye Cleveland

Brenda Faye Pitts Cleveland of Williamston, 82, wife of the late James “Jimmy” Howard Cleveland, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late John Marion and Ruby Belle Ramsey Pitts. She was formerly employed with a telecommunication company as a customer service representative and a member of Truth Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Robin Elaine Cleveland; two grandchildren; sister, Mary Pitts.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 16 from 10:30 to 11:45 am at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be to Truth Missionary Baptist Church, 200 Saluda Dam Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

Jesse Morrison

Jesse Woodward Morrison of Piedmont, 91, husband of Jean Mahoney Morrison, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025.

Born in Hendersonville, NC, he was the son of the late Jesse and Helen Hollingsworth Morrison. He retired from Carey Moving and Storage Company. He was a very good string musician and played the guitar, banjo, fiddle, dobro instruments. He also enjoyed the great outdoors.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, James, Larry, and Steven Morrison; daughter, Deborah Chadwell; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; and sister, Irene Lane.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Rachel McAlister Hill 

Williamston – Rachel McAlister Hill, 83, wife of the late William Alphis Hill, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth A. and Lillian Paige McAlister. She retired from Kendall Mill and was a member of Pelzer Church of God.

She is survived by son, William Hill; sister, Leila Culbertson; brother, Kenneth McAlister, Jr. (Tina); and grandchild, Tiffany Thompson (Nicholas); and great-grandchildren, Payten Thompson, Nick Thompson, Jr. and Cassidy Thompson.

She was predeceased by sister, Shirley Bannister; and brother, Leon McAlister.

The funeral service was held Monday, July 14 at 3:00 pm in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with burial following at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Kevin Schwenneker

Kevin Leonard Schwenneker of Piedmont, 34, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Born in Fort Lauderdale, FL, he was a son of Sheila Renee Miller Schwenneker and the late Leonard William Schwenneker. He was employed with Engineered Products. Kevin enjoyed riding his motorcycle, cooking, adventure, traveling, and was free spirited.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by brother, Randy Miller; sister, Alexis Reimers; sister-in-law, Holly Bayne; girlfriend, Rhiannon Alexander ; special daughter, Saylor; and niece, Kamlee Miller. He loved his dogs Carolina, Ammo, Pistol, and Prosecco.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 6:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.
