The Piedmont Historical Preservation Society August Program will be The Big Elrods: An Archaeological Recovery and Relocation of the Elrod Family Cemetery.
The program will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2:30-4:00, in the Club Room of the Historic Piedmont Community Building.

The project was completed in 2024. Learn the facts of the excavation of 16 decedents. Records indicate burials occurred between 1850 and 1890, with one possibly as late as 1900.
The cemetery was located at the site of the new Oak Hill Elementary School currently under construction in Powdersvill and scheduled to open in the fall of 2026.
“You will be astounded to learn why this Piedmont Family was known as The Big Elrods,” a spokesperson said. “Come early and stay late. Learn of the progress of our preservation and renovation of the 1908 Piedmont YWCA.”
Admission: A $5 donation per person is appreciated.
