During their meeting Monday, Williamston Town Council approved purchase of a new stage curtain for the Municipal Center Auditorium and a new golf cart ordinance.
Two police officers were recognized for promotion to the rank of Corporal. Police Corporal is a mid level supervisory role that bridges the gap between entry level officers and higher – ranking sergeants.
Chief Kevin Marsee said requirements are four years of law enforcement, two years with the WPD agency, three day officer field training at the state police academy. The position is principled supervision and the first level to being a supervisor. “We want our Corporals to be able to help our officers,” Chief Marsee said. “They also assist with DUI and Radar testing and other professional development.”
Receiving promotions were Officer Chris Trotter and Officer Jeremy Grinnell.
Envision Williamston Executive Director Roberta Hamby reported that the Back to School event with the Williamston Police Department had a great response and thanked sponsors All About Fabrics and Duke Energy.

Council also unanimously approved $19,337 for the purchase of a new stage curtain for the Municipal Center Auditorium. At the request of Mayor Rockey Burgess, the funding will come from the Town’s “Contingency Fund”.
There was some discussion about the funding coming out of the Hospitality Tax fund. Mayor Burgess said the fund had some large expenditures already budgeted including new restrooms for Mineral Spring Park, full-time Envision Williamston Executive Director Salary, Brookdale Park improvements and other projects.
