Willie Cilli

Pelzer – Willie Carolyn Haynes Cilli, 79, wife of the late Samuel Louis “Sam” Cilli, Sr., passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Born in Moulton, AL, she was a daughter of the late William Lawson and Daisy Alice Harris Haynes. She retired from Montclair Hospital and was a member of the Williamston Church of God.

She is survived by sons, Ricky Moss, Barry Moss, and Roger Sisco; daughters, Carol Martin (Stephen), Nancy Dickey (Dwight), and Joy McLemore (Darrell); step-son, Sam Cilli, Jr. (Alycia); step-daughter, Smantha Browning (Marvin); 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three step-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by son, Marvin Moss; two sisters; and grandchild, Chris Yester.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service will be on Thursday, August 21, at 12:30 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will follow at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Clarence Johnson

Clarence William Johnson of Greenville County, 83, husband of Joyce Louise Cape Johnson, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Born in Bryson City, NC, he was a son of the late Clyde William and Cora Lee Sutton Johnson. He retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation and was a member of Washington Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by sons, Russell “Rusty” Johnson, Rocky Johnson, and John David Woodson; sisters, Dorothy O’Baninion, Joyce Sullivan, and Phyllis DeHart; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was August 18 at Washington Baptist Church Cemetery.

Georgiann McFalls

Georgiann Joy Wiley McFalls of Piedmont, 71, wife of the late Elmer Dee “Mac” McFalls, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025.

Born in Orlando, FL, she was a daughter of the late George Lewis and Bonnie Carol Stark Wiley.

She is survived by daughters, Karen Purvine, Amber Land, Mary Beth Nagle and Anita McLelland; son, Aaron McFalls; brother, Larry Wiley; sister, Grace Crocker; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral Service will follow at 12:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Joyce Valentine

Joyce Ann Dove Valentine of Williamston, 92, wife of the late William Robert Valentine, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025.

Born in Greer, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Clayton and Sallie Louetta Summer Paris. She retired from Becton Dickenson.

She is survived by son, Gaige Sherman; sister, Vivian Presher; nine grandchildren; step-sons, David Valentine and Bobby Valentine; and step-daughters, Kim Valentine and Cindy Wells.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 12:30 to 1:45 pm at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the mortuary chapel. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mary Eaton

Mary Katherine Hilton Eaton of Pelzer, 77, wife of the late Charles Eaton, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late William Boyd Hilton, Sr. and Kathleen Chastain Hilton. She retired from J.P. Stevens Estes Plant and was a member of Eastview Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Darlene Greenway; sisters, Marie Stallings and Deborah Crump; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 20, from 9:30 to 10:45 am at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home of the daughter.

Jessie was the son of Larry Duncan (Melvie Ann) of Pelzer. He is survived by one brother, Larry Dwayne Duncan of Anderson.

Aunts: Rachel Fitkins, and Gail Fleming. Uncles: Wade Duncan; Sammy Duncan (Gloria); and Michael Duncan (Anita); all of Pelzer.   

Doris Porter

Doris Virginia Porter of Pelzer, 90, wife of the late Wade Porter, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Born in Pelzer, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lola Clardy Smith.

She was a member of White Plains Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughters, Tana Lewis and Deborah Stoeckley; son, Terry Porter; two granddaughters and one grandson; ten great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A visitation was held August 19 at White Plains Baptist Church. The funeral service was at 3:00 PM. Burial followed in White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

Elaine Elrod

Lila Elaine Wood Taylor Elrod of Pelzer, 84, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late James Harold and Mary Elizabeth Ballard Wood. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by son, Kenneth Taylor; daughter, Susan Lowe; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Faye Merritt

Helen “Faye” Sherman Merritt, 84, wife of James Arthur Merritt, of Piedmont passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at McCall Hospice House.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Bucy Simmons and Catherine Stegall Sherman. She was a retired teacher from Sue Cleveland Elementary School in Greenville County School District and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Teresa Evans and Andrea Masker; two grandsons.

Visitation was held August 16 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Easley. The funeral service followed in the church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Elizabeth Aldine “Deanie” Ellison 

Elizabeth Aldine “Deanie” Ellison, 72, wife of Walter William Ellison, passed away on August 8, 2025.

Born in Williston, Florida, she was the daughter of late Livie and Lillie Bell Manley of Williamston.

She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. 

She is survived by her husband Walter Ellison; daughters: Angie Chastain, Susan Hart Jordan; five grandchildren: and many great-grandchildren.

The family hosted a memorial service on August 14, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Williamston.

James Crawford, Sr.

James William Crawford, Sr., of Pelzer, 75, husband of Jennifer Amelia Capps Crawford, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025.

He was born in Pelzer on June 15, 1950, to the late William Edgar and Mattie Grace Beacham Crawford. 

He was a veteran of the the United States Navy. He was employed with Michelin Tire Company. He later founded Crawford Enterprises.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Rev. Jamie Crawford and Joshua Crawford; daughter, Jill Ford; sister, Jeanne Segers; brother, Greg Crawford; and three grandchildren.

Visitation was held on August 19 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A memorial service followed in the mortuary chapel.

Margaret Alexander

Margaret Louise Tucker Alexander of Pelzer, 89, wife of the late Charles Lee Alexander, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Born in Greeenville, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Lee and Mary Louise Vaughn Tucker. She retired from 3M.

She is survived by sons, Terry Alexander, Danny Alexander, Benny Alexander, and Randy Alexander; sisters, Doris Cisson and Peggy Sue Cross; brother, Jerry Tucker; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held August 19 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with a memorial service following in the mortuary chapel.

Nicholas “Nicky” Nabors

Piedmont – Nicholas Harold “Nicky” Nabors, 52, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Born in Pickens, he was the son of the late James Harold and Susie Ann Woods Nabors. He was employed with Image Sign and Design and attended Oak Grove Independent Baptist Church.

He is survived by sisters, Patricia Ramsey, Linda Leary (Bryan), and Susie Burton; nieces, Elane Nabors and Lisa Nabors; nephew, Ricky Ramsey; great-niece, Ashley Craine; great-nephew, Avery Ginn; 4 great-great-nieces; and 2 great-great-nephews.

He was predeceased by nephew, Timothy Ramsey.

Visitation was held on Sunday, August 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The funeral service was held on Monday, August 18, 3:00 pm at Oak Grove Independent Baptist Church with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the home of the niece.

Lynne Kelly

Piedmont – Barbara Lynne Couch Kelly, 86, wife of Joe Harvey Kelly, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late William Jave “Dick” and Cecelia Pearl Timms Couch. She retired from J.P. Stevens Estes Plant.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Barry Kelly (Julie) and Greg Kelly (Tonya); and grandchildren, Anna, Sydney, Katie, Paige, and Caroline Kelly.

Visitation was held Friday, August 15, from 12:30 to 1:45 pm at Mountain Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service followed at 2:00 pm in the church. Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of Margaret Ann Crompton Bearden and the late Bobby Gerald Bearden, Sr. She retired from Ritz Cafe.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by daughters, Amanda Armes, Stacey Phillips, Stephanie King, and Nicole Chapman; son, Daniel Vaughn; brothers, Timothy Bearden and Bobby Bearden, Jr.; eight grandchildren.
