Anderson District One Board to approve calendar and discuss property

The Anderson School District One Board of Trustees met Tuesday (Oct. 28) for their regular monthly meeting.
Agenda items included approval of Local Board Approved Courses, Consideration to review first reading on FF-food Services and AR-EF-R, Food Services Administrative Rule.
Also second and final reading on AR GCLE-R – Unencumbered Time; IC – Public School Year and DIR- Fraud Risk Management.
Several Parent Organization/Booster Club Forms were also to be considered for approval.
There was also approval of the 2026-27 School Calendar.
The Board planned to go into Executive Session to discuss a Property Matter and take possible actions following the executive session.
At their Sept 30 meeting, Superintendent Dr. Seth Young conducted the Oath of Office for new AD1 Boardmember for Area 4, Chris Karr, who was appointed by the Anderson County Board of Education to fill the vacant seat.
Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Becky Brady introduced Cyndi Durham (Special Revenues Accountant) to the Board as the next Director of Finance. Current AD1 Finance Director Travis Thomas is retiring this school year.
Assistant Superintendent of Administration Dr. Jeff Wilson introduced the 2025-26 Support Staff of the Year, Holly Ragsdale; Induction Teacher of the Year, Anna Calvert and Teacher of the Year, Kimberly Terry.
Finance Director Thomas reported two projects currently in progress, Oak Hill Elementary School and Concrete Primary renovations. Once Building Fund 502 is depleted, the remainder of these project expenses will revert to the Local Option Sales Tax funds.
Thomas reported the Total Building Program Revenue: $54,284,351; Building Program Expenditures: $45,205,104; Building Program Encumbrances: $19,371,861 and Building Program Fund Balance: $10,628,523
Anderson County Total for the Local Option Sales Tax amounted to $3,606,147. Total Allocation for District One was $1,222,685. Of that, twenty percent, $244,537 goes toward Property Tax Relief and eighty percent, $978,148 goes toward to Capital projects.
Ending Fund Balance for the LOST is $20,265,885
Chief Academic Officer Bradley Moore presented information reflecting test score data and the South Carolina Department of Education’s overall goal for college, career, or military-ready students. Moore highlighted specific areas where District One has already met that marker in SC Ready grades three through eight.
He explained that SC Ready looks at proficiency, how many students are meeting the goal, and a growth component. Anderson One students are well above the state percentage goal with some above the seventyfive percent.
Moore shared that Anderson One began Professional Learning Communities and Standards Work around English Language Arts first and will be getting into Math standards.
AD1 is still top eight and nine in the state on Math and the state is focused on Math as it tends to lag behind English Language Arts counterparts.
Anderson School District One and Two Career and Technology Director Hollie Harrell presented an overview things happening at the Career and Technology Center.
Harrell began stating that many of the programs offered through the Career Center implement high levels of skills that directly impact student testing and scores. Many programs require the use of high levels of math skills, Cosmetology uses higher levels of biology skills, and some courses have components of building from history.
Harrell shared a presentation on enrollment history, post-graduation success rate, college courses offered, industry certifications awarded, on-the-job training for students, and business partners who play a big part in the success of the Career Center and students.
A total of 62,955 hours were worked by students of the Career Center, and a total of $910,957 of income was earned. Many state-level awards have been given to departments and students at the Career Center, in Agriculture, Engineering, Automotive Collision, Graphic Communications, Media Broadcasting, Programming and Game Design, and Culinary Arts.

A booster club form for Wren High School Band was approved.
Dr. Young shared a presentation with the Board, reviewing a safety update regarding the completion of the SC Department of Education Safety Grant, which provides upgraded locks and access control points through Anderson One, wearable alert badges for staff, and a county mass casualty simulation
The Board approved changing the November 18 meeting to December 2.
Boardmember Mike Wilson volunteered to represent Anderson One at the 2025 Legislative Delegate Assembly. Boardmember Wendy Burgess volunteered to serve as an Alternate Delegate. Both were approved unanimously.
