Special Election Jan. 20 to fill vacant Mayor seat – West Pelzer

The Town of West Pelzer announced last Thursday that Mayor Jim Riddle resigned from office effective immediately. The resignation was submitted to Town Council on October 22, 2025.

According to South Carolina state law and the Town’s charter, the Mayor Pro Tempore will assume the duties of the mayor until a special election is held to fill the vacancy.

There will be a Special Election to fill the vacant mayor seat on January 20, 2026.
A candidate filing period for Mayor will open at noon on Monday, November 10, 2025, and close at noon on Friday, November 21, 2025. Any candidate seeking nominations must file during this time at the Town of West Pelzer Municipal Building, 30 Main Street West Pelzer or Anderson County Election Office: 301 N Main Street, Anderson.
Filing Hours at Town of West Pelzer Municipal Building are Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (closed 12 pm – 1 pm for lunch) The Municipal Building office will be closed Veteran’s Day November 11.
Filing hours at the County Election Office are Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. (Closed Veterans Day, November 11, 2025)
The Statement of Intention of Candidacy (SIC) form required for filing is available in the “Candidate Information” section and at the Town of West Pelzer Municipal Building and Anderson County Election Office.
Filing fee for this office is $50. Filing fees are paid at the time of filing by candidates seeking the nomination. Filing fee checks should be made payable to the Town of West Pelzer.
Candidates are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests and a Campaign Disclosure online with the State Ethics Commission at http://ethics.sc.gov. Failure to file these documents may result in a candidate fine but will not disqualify a candidate from the election. Contact the State Ethics Commission for more information.
The West Pelzer General Election will be held on January 20, 2026. Polls will be open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Early Voting will be conducted at the Board of Voter Registration and Elections, 301 N Main Street, Anderson beginning Monday January 5, 2026, through Friday, January 16, 2026. Hours are M-F 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
