The Town of West Pelzer announced last Thursday that Mayor Jim Riddle resigned from office effective immediately. The resignation was submitted to Town Council on October 22, 2025.
According to South Carolina state law and the Town’s charter, the Mayor Pro Tempore will assume the duties of the mayor until a special election is held to fill the vacancy.
The Town of West Pelzer will release additional information regarding the transition process and next steps in the coming days.
A Special Election to fill the vacant mayor seat will be held on January 20, 2026
A candidate filing period for Mayor will open at noon on Monday, November 10, 2025, and close at noon on Friday, November 21, 2025. Any candidate seeking nominations must file during this time at West Pelzer Town Hall.
