Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore is reporting that the county is experiencing a record number of suicide deaths in 2025.
As of Nov. 17, Anderson County has recorded 55 suicides, the highest number ever documented.
According to Shore, the previous record, 54 suicides, was reached in both 2015 and 2020. For comparison, by this same date in 2024, the county had reported 28 suicides, highlighting a significant year-over-year increase.
“With six weeks remaining in the year, we are urging residents to check in on their loved ones, friends, and neighbors,” Shore said. “Early connection and support can play a critical role in saving lives.”
Warning signs that someone may be struggling include: Talking about wanting to die or expressing hopelessness; Withdrawing from family, friends, or usual activities; Noticeable changes in mood, behavior, or sleep patterns or Expressing feelings of being a burden to others.
Coroner Shore emphasized that mental health challenges can affect anyone. This year’s suicide deaths range in age from 16 to 87.
