A 74-year-old Belton man died more than a week after the motorcycle he was driving hit a car.
According to the Coroner’s Office, Anderson County 911 received a call on Wednesday, November 12 just before 4 pm regarding a wreck involving a car and motorcycle on Belton Highway at Amity Road. Responders arrived on scene, provided treatment to the motorcycle driver, and transported him to AnMed. He was later flown to Prisma Health Greenville, where he succumbed to his injuries on November 21 at 5:59am.
The victim has been identified as Wilton N. Groomes, of Belton.
Preliminary investigation shows that the victim was traveling North on Amity Road, crossing over Belton Highway, when a car traveling South on Amity Road failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the car on the passenger side causing the victim to be ejected. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The death has been ruled accidental.
The Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated.
