The Piedmont Historical Preservation Society is asking the community to help with donations after a donor offered a matching fund of $50,000.
“The Piedmont Historical Preservation Society has had a donor offer a matching fund of $50,000,” said Dr. Anne Peden, Chairman of Piedmont Historical Preservation Society. “What a blessing this is as we march toward getting the YWCA building and grounds completed for opening during 2026.”
“With such a large offer, we will need to ask for your continued help.”
Peden said, “These funds will go to tie up the odds and ends of the Y like finishing touches, purchasing a state-of-the-art technology system with computers, printers, copiers, and software, as well as blinds, cleaning supplies, grounds hard scaping, and exterior signage for our museum on the grounds and on the highway, and for building displays for the museum rooms and bookcases for the museum library room. We will also need folding chairs and TVs for meetings in the community room. The more we think about it the more comes to mind. The renovation of the interior of the Y is moving along, and we are excited to start planning for the museum displays in the near future.”
The funds will be needed in the winter of 2026, so the donor would like it completed by the end of January. That gives the PHPS almost two months and it gives you time to donate in 2025 and 2026 for tax purposes. Please consider supporting the PHPS again with a generous donation toward meeting this goal.
“Every dollar counts, and we would love to have your support no matter how small,” Peden said.
Checks may be made payable to and mailed to: PHPS, P O Box 284, Piedmont, SC, 29673
As part of fundraising efforts The Saluda River Grill at 1 Main Street, Piedmont, has partnered with PHPS to place a tree in their entrance with a donation box. The tree is decorated with replicas of actual Christmas cards now maintained in PHPS archives. These beautiful cards were received by families here in Piedmont. Many of these cards are well over 100 years old. Take time to view and enjoy the traditions of sending and receiving Christmas Cheer. Soak in the joy of the many sweet friendships in our village. Additionally vintage glass ornaments along with cotton grown in Piedmont are used. The burlap ribbon and cotton boll ornaments have been used as a nod to the cotton mills of Piedmont.
“We hope to see you in Piedmont soon. Merry Christmas!”
