Jack Wilson, Jr.

Williamston – Jack Crymes Wilson, Jr., 86, husband of Melodie Elizabeth “Beth” Abel Wilson, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

Born in Anderson on November 9, 1939, he was the son of the late Jack Crymes Wilson, Sr. and Lillian Sible Storey Wilson. Jack was raised in Williamston and was a graduate of the Palmetto High School Class of 1958 where he played football and baseball. He was the typical boy, riding his bicycle, skating on Pelzer Avenue before traffic was so heavy, and going to the local picture show. His home was on Mill Street just beyond the Post Office. His dad, Jack Sr., owned the Amoco/American Station and brick icehouse. His mother, owned Sible’s Dress Shop on Main Street. His Wilson grandparents who were Postmaster and Postmistress built the 2-story brick house beside Walgreens where he and Beth have lived and remodeled for 41 years.

Jack attended Erskine College and graduated Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida in 1963 with a B.S. of Fine Arts, Commercial and Advertising Design. He was a lifetime member of Williamston First Baptist Church where he served many terms as Deacon and over 20 years as Treasurer and Prayer Team Leader as well as various committees. He served his country through enlisting in the SC Army National Guard where he attained the rank Sergeant and was classified as a marksman before being discharged in 1970.

Jack began working in the advertising field in Greenville then in Sumter where he was Advertising Manager for Woolco Department Stores. There he met Beth who was employed as a pharmacist at Woolco. They were married on September 14, 1969. They acquired Sherrill’s Pharmacy in Myrtle Beach in 1971 which they owned until 1981. After returning home to Williamston in 1985, there was renewed interest and involvement in First Baptist Church and volunteering at AnMed Medical Center. Also, much time was spent in renovating the Wilson family home with Beth’s help. Jack enjoyed woodworking and was an accomplished and self-taught craftsman. He hand-crafted more than 30 pieces for their home. He was a self-taught photographer that created a dark room to develop his own pictures with Beth’s assistance while in Sumter.

Jack and Beth have enjoyed years being engaged in intense and serious Bible Study both locally and online. They enjoyed traveling to historic Civil War Battlefields since his great-grandfather, Thomas Crymes, had been a soldier. They visited Colonial Williamsburg numerous times to enjoy colonial history.

He loved life and Beth dearly. They were married 56 years and were soulmates and each other’s best friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sister-in-law, Betsy Epps (Beth’s brother’s wife); nephews, Steven and Mike Epps; godson, Kelly Williams; godson’s mother, Libby Williams (first pharmacist in their drugstore); friend, Sam Hodges (daughter of Sherrill who established the drug store they bought); numerous cousins; and a circle of wonderful friends and fellow Bible students.

Jack will be greatly missed, but now he has overcome medical issues that had plagued him for 31 years. He was a fighter and now is at the feet of his Savior.
