Liberty – Jessica Ashley Cooley, 43, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late David Alan and Sandra Jane Brooks Cooley. She was a member of Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle.

Survivors include aunt and uncle, Wanda and Boyce Vest of Williamston; aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Tom Brooks of Wiliamston; aunt, Frances Stanton of Liberty, and uncle, Stanley Cooley of Belton.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 15, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Elbert “Jack” Jackson Payne, Jr. 

Elbert “Jack” Jackson Payne, Jr., 88,  of Pelzer, husband of the late Doris Payne, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026.

 Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Elbert Payne, Sr. and Fannie McAbee Payne.

He  served in the US Navy and US Army and was formerly employed with Palmetto Loom Reed. He was a member of New Life Independent Baptist Church.

 Survivors include two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 19th, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Frances Boggs

Williamston – Frances Campbell Boggs, 91, wife of Alton R. Boggs, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at her home.

Born in Belton, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lorena McDowell Campbell. In 1954, she married her sweetheart, Alton, and they were married for 71 years. They made Williamston their home where they raised two children and made a lifetime of memories.

Frances was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved her family and loved spending time with them. She was a Christian and a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church in Williamston where she attended regularly until her health declined.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Michael Alton Boggs (Kim) of Williamston; daughter, Deborah Boggs Philyaw (Mike) of Williamston; 3 granddaughters, Kelly “Nikki” Boggs Brown (Jason), Kayla Boggs Bryant (Stacy), and Casey Philyaw Jones (Matthew); and 5 great-grandchildren, Crayton Boggs, Carter Bryant, Elijah Brown, Ruth Jones, and Hadley Jones. Frances adored her Grands.

The family received friends Saturday, January 10, from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. at the church. A private burial will be held.

Patricia King Blackmon 

Patricia King Blackmon of Williamston, 82, wife of the late Benjamin Blackmon, Sr., passed away Friday, January 9, 2026.

Born in Red Bank, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John C. King, Sr. and Cora Melton King. 

Survivors include sons, Mel Blackmon, Ben Blackmon, Jr., Luke Blackmon and Bob Blackmon; daughter, Jeanie Blackmon; daughter-in-law, Heather Blackmon; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family received friends January 13 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following in the mortuary chapel.

Marian Estelle Massey Black of Surfside Beach, 90, formerly of Pelzer, widow of Silas Samuel Black, Jr., passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Mary Lee Dunlap Massey Murphy. She retired from Black’s Body Shop and was a member of Palmetto Pointe Church of God in Myrtle Beach. Survivors include sons, Samuel Roy Black and Bruce David Black; brothers, Roger Massey and Scott Massey; sister, Jan Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 53 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 14, from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. in the mortuary chapel.
