Master Gunnery Sergeant Johnny Randall Chandler, USMC (Ret.), Dennis Gambrell, Christopher “Beaver” Lee Chapman, Janice Puckett, Arthur Patrick Dodd, Jr, Bobbie Martin, Debbie Hopkins

Debbie Hopkins

Deborah “Debbie” Ann Peden Hopkins of Belton, 73, wife of 54 years to Paul Stephen “Steve” Hopkins, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at her home.

Born in Simpsonville, she was a daughter of the late Albert Carlisle Peden, Sr. and Janice Hipps Peden. She was formerly employed with Union Carbide, Dutton Refrigeration, and East Coast Metal Distributors. Debbie was also a secretary and day-care director at Simpsonville Church of God, and for the last 15 years of her work life, she was church secretary at Pelzer Church of God where she was a long-time member. She was a member at Rock Springs Baptist Church. 

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Stephenie Sims; son, Chad Hopkins; six grandchildren and Lavella Hopkins; brother, Albert Carlisle Peden, Jr. and nephew, Josh Peden.

The family received  friends February 6 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service was held Saturday, February 7, at in the mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Bobbie Martin

Bobbie Jean Martin of Williamston, 88, widow of Carroll David Martin, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Born in Gainesville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Ellen Stargel Moore. She was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith and attended Joy Fellowship.

Survivors include children, Johnny Beckwith, Tonya Currens (the late Todd Currens), and Anthony Martin; six grandchildren, and  six great-grandchildren, and son-in-law, Todd Wilson.

A private graveside service will be held.

A memorial service was held February 9 at Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.

Arthur Patrick Dodd, Jr.

Arthur “Art” “Arty” Patrick Dodd, Jr., 63, husband of Sharon Turner Dodd, of Williamston, passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

 Born in Columbia, he was a son of Nora Heller Dodd and the late Arthur Patrick Dodd, Sr. Art worked at BMW in Greer for 32 years. He was a member of High Praises Church.

In addition to his mother of Pelzer and his best friend and loving wife of 41 years, he is survived by his beloved son, Samuel Robert Dodd and daughter-in-law, Brittany of Bowman; his granddaughter who was the apple of his eye, Sapphire Rose Dodd; brother, Richy Dodd of Pelzer; brother-in-law and his wife, Joey and Angela Turner of Lake Wylie; his devoted father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maynard and Barbara Turner of Williamston; nieces, Elizabeth Sustar and Anna Catherine Turner; nephews, Joshua and Matthew Turner; and numerous aunts and uncles.

The family received friends February 8, at High Praises Church with the funeral service following. Entombment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Janice Puckett

Janice Wanell Emerson Puckett of Piedmont, 76, wife of Rev. Stephen “Steve” Erwin Puckett, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

Born on September 1, 1949, in Russellville, AL, she was a daughter of the late Clovis Marshall and Earlean Cox Emerson. Janice devoted her life to God, her family, and the calling placed on her heart. 

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University and later received her Master’s in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. 

In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by her sister, Marsha Morgan of Cordova, AL; children, Stephanie Williams of Piedmont, Steven Puckett of Irmo; and Courtny Chesser of Summerville; and her beloved grandchildren, Jordan Williams, Nathaniel Puckett, Emerson Puckett, Lauren Chesser, Jackson Chesser, and John Luke Chesser.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, from 10:30 to 11:45 am at Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy. A celebration of life service will follow at 12:00 pm in the church. Burial will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Christopher “Beaver” Lee Chapman 

Christopher “Beaver” Lee Chapman of Belton, 51, husband of Tammy Chapman, passed away Friday, February 6, 2026.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Mary Swaney and the late Douglas Chapman.

Survivors include son, Allen Chapman; daughter, Ashli Taylor; four grandchildren and brothers, Babe Chapman and John Chapman.

Visitation was held February 10 at Gray Mortuary. The memorial service followed in the mortuary chapel.

Dennis Gambrell

Ervin “Dennis” Arthur Gambrell of Easley, 56, husband of Cheyenne Hyde Gambrell, passed away Monday, February 2, 2026.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Jerry Wayne and Barbara Ann Mathis Lollis and Henry Ervin Gambrell. He was employed with Renewable Water Resources (ReWa). Dennis loved his job, cutting grass, and dancing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Mindy Lee; son, Brody Gambrell; sister, Donna Stargel; brother, Timothy Lollis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Saturday, February 7 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Johnny Randall Chandler, USMC (Ret.)

Master Gunnery Sergeant Johnny Randall Chandler of Belton, United States Marine Corps (Ret.), 77, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Born on August 23, 1948, in Anderson, he was the son of the late John Aaron and Sarah Mae Smith Chandler who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and service that guided his life. He proudly served thirty years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. Survivors include three sons, John Chandler, Shane Chandler, and Matthew McDonald; daughter, Mischa Sprouse; sister, Cheryl Davenport; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 17, from 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. at Beech Springs Church with the funeral service following at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Burial with full military honors in recognition of his thirty years of faithful service to the United States Marine Corps will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Anderson County PAWS, 1320 Hwy 29 S., Anderson, SC 29626 in support of the animal shelter.
