South Greenville Fire dedicates new Engine 75 – To serve Possum Kingdom area
South Greenville Fire Department recently dedicated an new fire engine, Engine 75 which will service the Possum Kingdom area of the District.
SGFD Fire Chief Harbert welcomed guests and had introductory remarks.
“I would like to personally thank our citizens for their trust in our fire department as this purchase is an investment that will provide service to our community for years to come,” Chief Harbert said. He thanked the Board of Commissioners. “These purchases would not be possible without your dedication and hard work.”
“This new apparatus is not just a new piece of equipment to us, it represents our department’s dedication to providing high quality service to our citizens and community. Each member of this department operates each day following the department motto of “Caring For Our Community” and with this new engine they continue to uphold the department motto while serving the community of Possum Kingdom.”
The engine is the first purpose built engine to be housed at station 75. “When you look at the truck, you may think it looks like all of the other new trucks, but in reality it has things that are much different.
A few of these differences are: 1250 gallon water tank, this will allow us a longer initial attack in areas without hydrants. Also a 400′ preconnect off the rear of the apparatus to reach areas the truck will not and a hard suction hose for drafting in areas that do not have a hydrant.
Mike Stadler, former Assistant Chief of the Possum Kingdom Volunteer Fire Department before it was merged into South Greenville in 1994, recounted the evolution of the fire service in that area of Greenville County.
“While it looks like all our Pierce Engines, as the Chief’s remarks indicate, it was custom built with SGFD’s Possum Kingdom station 75 service area in mind,” Stadler said.
Rev. Massey of Holly Springs Baptist Church delivered the Dedication remarks for the new Engine and SGFD family.
