The Anderson School District Two Board recently approved a bond referendum question to be placed on a special election ballot to fund the construction of a new unified middle school.
Voters who plan to vote in the School District 2 Bond Referendum on May 2 must be registered by April 2.
According to AD2, District-wide facility studies conducted in 2022 and 2025 indicated that their two middle schools, both built in 1954, have significant structural, flooring, and mechanical deficiencies that require extensive replacement and repairs.
District officials stated that coding restrictions prevent major construction projects and the list of maintenance needs continues to grow. It is becoming more and more challenging to fund the extensive repairs these buildings require.
“Inspired by the unifying effect that Belton-Honea Path High School has had on the community, it is now time to turn our attention to our middle schools. Education standards, safety requirements, and technology have all come a long way since these two schools were built. District 2 is committed to providing its students, faculty, and staff safe, modern, attractive, and collaborative learning spaces to maximize their potential.”
