Anderson County Deputy shot, suspect killed during traffic stop – I-85

An Anderson County deputy is facing life-threatening injuries after being shot by a suspect during a traffic stop along I-85 on Monday afternoon.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a Dodge Challenger and were in the process of interviewing the driver when the deputy requested additional assistance. A second deputy arrived on scene shortly thereafter.
During the encounter, the suspect retrieved a firearm from the vehicle and fired at least one shot, striking the second Anderson County deputy. The deputy who initiated the stop returned fire, striking the suspect who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The injured deputy was taken to the hospital.
The Anderson County Coroner identified the suspect as a 32-year-old male from Harrisburg, PA.
The cause of death is gunshot wound and the manner of death has been ruled homicide. An autopsy has been scheduled to assist in the investigation.
The scene is under investigation by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has assumed lead on the officer-involved shooting.
