Julia Clanton was the top vote getter in a special election held recently to fill a vacant seat on West Pelzer Town Council.
Three candidates signed up for the seat which was vacated when councilman Rick Sanders ran for mayor following the resignation of former Mayor Jim Riddle. That special election was held Jan. 20. The West Pelzer Special Election for the seat on council was will held on April 21.
A total of 55 votes were cast. Clanton received 37 votes (67.27 percent) Jason Knight was the secont top vote getter with 11 votes (20 percent) and Jodie L. Southwood received 7 votes (12.73 percent). Voter turnout for the special election was 8.87 percent of registered voters.
A ceremonial swearing in for Clanton will be held at the next meeting of council at 6 pm on Tuesday, May 13.
