SC Republican voters will have the opportunity to return to the polls on Tuesday, June 23, to decide who will represent the party in the statewide race for governor, commissioner of agriculture and attorney general.
In the statewide Republican governor’s primary race, Pamela Evette and Alan Wilson were the two top vote getters out of seven candidates and will proceed to a runoff election which will be held Tuesday, June 23.
Evette was the top choice in Anderson County with 6,795 votes. Wilson was next with 5,910, edging out Ralph Norman who came in third with 5,495 votes.
In the statewide Democratic primary governor’s race, Jermaine Johnson was the top vote getter with 221,751 votes.
There will also be a runoff in the statewide SC Commissioner of Agriculture race between Danny Ford Jr. and Cody Simpson. Neither received fifty percent of the vote. Simpson received 163,973 votes statewide, Ford received 160,137 votes. Voters in Anderson County clearly preferred Ford with 13,337 (53.3 percent) voting for him. Simpson received 7,878 votes in Anderson County (31.31 percent).
For SC Attorney General Republican Primary, Stephen Goldfinch and David Stumbo will also be in a runoff election. Goldfinch received the most votes statewide with 175,921 (39.9 percent) David Stumbo was second with 157,002 votes (35.66 percent). Stumbo was the top vote getter in Anderson County for the Attorney General seat with 12,558 votes. Goldfinch received 7,634 votes in Anderson County.
In the Democratic race for Comptroller General, Tiffany Boozer was the top vote getter with 261,958 votes.
Sylvia Wright was the top vote getter for the Democratic primary for State Superintendent of Education.
Annie Andrews was the top vote getter in the Democratic primary for U. S. Senate with 226,075.
In the Republican primary for U. S. Senate, incumbent Lindsey Graham received the most votes statewide with 264,091 (56.78 percent). In Anderson County, Graham was the top vote getter with 12, 580 votes (48.44 percent).
In local races, State House District 6, incumbent April Cromer had 3,806 votes to challenger Kyle White’s 2,830.
State House District 10 incumbent Thomas Beach received 2,321 (66.83 percent) votes to challenger Stewart Watson’s 1,151 (33.17 percent).
In the Anderson County Council District 6 race, incumbent Jimmy Davis received 2,949 votes to Ryan Cowserts 896.
The race for Anderson County Council District 7 was much closer, with political newcomer Collin Alexander edging out incumbent Cindy Wilson by just 38 votes. Alexander received 1,818 votes to Wilson’s 1,780.
Voter turnout in Anderson County for the Statewide and local primary election held last Tuesday was 26.57 percent.
Out of a total of 128,897 registered voters, there were 34,246 ballots cast. Republican voters cast 26,505 ballots, with 19,905 on election day, 6,309 early votes and 381 absentee by mail.
Democratic voters cast 7,741 ballots with 4,428 on election day, 3,205 in early voting and 105 by absentee mail. There were a few failsafe provisional votes in the vote totals.
