The South Carolina Aviation Association (SCAA) recently announced recipients of its 2026 SCAA Scholarship Program. William Johnson of Piedmont was among seven recipients of a record-breaking $11,000 in scholarships awarded to promising students pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace.
This year’s scholarship pool represents the largest amount awarded in a single year by SCAA, surpassing the previous high-water mark of $7,500. The Scholarship Program is supported through generous donations and proceeds from events such as the silent auction and the golf outing, sponsored by Ardurra, held during the 2026 SCAA Annual Conference.
This year’s recipients are actively advancing their education and flight training while preparing to become the next generation of aviation professionals in South Carolina. Their career goals span commercial aviation, military aviation, aerospace engineering, aviation management, and flight instruction.
Among them are:
William Johnson of Piedmont is training through USAeroFlight while pursuing an Associate Degree in Advanced Piloting through Community College of Beaver County and a future bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University. Johnson also serves as Deputy Commander of Support for Civil Air Patrol’s Greenville Composite Squadron and volunteers with aviation outreach programs across the state. His goal is to earn additional certifications and serve as a local flight instructor.
Will Cornish of Simpsonville is a high school student preparing to begin flight training through Greenville Aviation. Inspired by his participation in Greenville County School District’s Aerospace Technologies program, Cornish plans to pursue collegiate or military aviation opportunities while working toward his Private Pilot License. His ultimate goal is to become a rescue pilot, combining aviation with a commitment to serving others.
Kennedy Washington of Simpsonville is studying Aerospace Engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology. Through hands-on projects involving remote-controlled aircraft and drone systems, Washington has developed a strong foundation in aerodynamics, engineering and aviation technology. She plans to pursue a career advancing innovation within the aerospace industry.

The SCAA Scholarship Program supports students as they pursue the education, training and certifications needed to become future leaders in aviation and aerospace.
