On Wednesday, July 22, Anderson School District One held the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for Oak Hill Elementary School. New Oak Hill Elementary School ready for students
Anderson School District One held the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Oak Hill Elementary School on Wednesday (July 22). During the ceremony, several speakers delivered remarks including Anderson One Board Chair Mrs. Nancy Upton and State Superintendent Ellen Weaver.
Oak Hill Elementary, located at 250 Oak Road in Piedmont, will serve students and families in the Powdersville community, offering modern classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, and enhanced security features. The conference room of the school is named the “G. Robbie Binnicker Conference Center” in honor of former Superintendent Robbie Binnicker.
The new school, was built to accommodate growth at Concrete Elementary School (formerly Concrete Primary) and Powdersville Elementary School and is designed for 1000 students.
The Anderson One Board of Trustees used the Local Option Sales Tax to help fund the $44 million project without a bond referendum.
The new Oak Hill Elementary School name has ties to the community’s history. It is named after the former Oak Hill School, which operated in the Piedmont/Powdersville area in the mid-1900s. Documented photographs believed to be from the 1930’s show students once attended an Oak Hill School in the area.
Several community members with ties to the former Oak Hill School attended the ribbon-cutting.
The Principal of Oak Hill Elementary School is Brenna Horn, who previously served as the Principal of Powdersville Elementary School. The school will welcome students for the first day of school on August 6th.
