Due to the recent passing of US Senator Lindsey Graham, there will be a Special Republican Primary Election held next Tuesday to nominate a Republican candidate to appear on the General Election ballot in November.
Nine candidates have signed up to run for the US Senate seat including: Duke Buckner, Russell Fry, Darline Graham, Mark Lynch, Mark McBride, Ralph Norman, Glenda Gail Parker, Mark Sanford and Samuel Sam Shepard.
The US Senate Special Primary Election will take place on August 11, with a potential runoff election on August 25.
Early voting for this election will only be held three days, August 5-7, 8:30 am – 5 pm, at the County Election Office, 301 N Main Street in Anderson.
The deadline for absentee applications for absentee by mail voting was Friday, July 31.
Due to the start of school in Anderson County and to provide a sufficient amount of election workers, the Anderson County Elections Office has combined a number of polling locations for this special election.
A number of polling locations in The Journal readership area have been combined including Pelzer, Williamston, Cedar Grove
Pelzer voters will vote at the West Pelzer fire department; Williamston and Williamston Mill voters will vote at Calvary Baptist Church; Cedar Grove voters will vote at First Baptist Church, 105 Brown Avenue in Belton; Piercetown voters will vote at ITT Consumer Power Tools on Martin Road. Powdersville and Hunt Meadows voters will vote at Upstate Carolina Dance Center, 10207 Anderson Rd, Easley. Voters are encouraged to visit www.scvotes.gov to check their election day polling location to ensure they go to the correct location. Signs will be posted at normal polling locations to direct voters to their location for this election.
With the number of candidates who have filed for the seat, there will likely be a runoff election that will be held on August 25. The same polling locations will be used for the runoff election. Early voting for the potential runoff will be August 19-21, 8:30 am – 5 pm, at the Anderson County Election Office.
