The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Office of the Coroner and SLED are investigating the death of a woman following an officer involved shooting in Townville on Friday.
Anderson County 911 received a call at around 7:45pm Friday night for shots fired in the area of Bradberry Road.
According to SLED, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Bradberry Road in Townville. One deputy encountered a woman, later identified as Linda Ann McAbee, 55, who was armed with a handgun. During the encounter, there was an exchange of gunfire and McAbee was shot.
According to the coroner’s office, the woman went into cardiac arrest on scene and was transported to AnMed where she was pronounced deceased just after 9 pm.
The cause and manner of death are pending and an autopsy has been scheduled to assist in the investigation.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
As standard agency protocol of the Sheriff’s Office regarding officer involved shootings, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was notified and is investigating.
According to SLED, their goal is to conduct a thorough, independent criminal investigation as timely as is possible under the circumstances. SLED agents conduct interviews with all potential witnesses and will collect all relevant evidence and will forensically test such evidence as needed.
Information gathered in the SLED investigation of the incident will be summarized in a case file report to be submitted to prosecutors.
The incident in Anderson County is the 23rd officer involved shooting in South Carolina in 2026. This is the 3rd officer involved shooting for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office this year.
In 2025, there were 45 officer involved shootings in South Carolina.
