A 58-year-old Pendleton woman has been charged with felony ill treatment of animals following an incident involving a small dog, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Tammy Jean Hutchinson was charged in connection with an incident that occurred at 1005 S. Mechanic St. in Pendleton.
Deputies responded to the location around 3:05 p.m. Sept. 9 after receiving a call for service. According to the Sheriff’s Office, surveillance footage showed a woman later identified as Hutchinson entering the store with a small white and brown spotted dog.
The dog began barking at a store employee, and Hutchinson was asked to leave because of the barking, according to the release.
Investigators said that as Hutchinson walked toward the entrance, she picked up the dog, carried it over her shoulder and then threw it down toward the concrete. The dog struck the concrete, and store employees demanded that Hutchinson leave.
The dog ran away from the store but was later located and transported to Anderson County PAWS for treatment.
Hutchinson appeared before an Anderson County Bond Court magistrate and was given a $5,000 surety bond. She has since been released from the Anderson County Detention Center.
