Williamston Police Captain Kevin Marsee warns residents to be aware of an Energy Disconnect scam that is occurring across South Carolina and other states.
According to Captain Marsee, the scammer calls customer and tells them they will shut power off if they don’t make a payment over the phone with a green dot card. The scammer pretends to be an energy company employee and often has basic customer information such as address and name.
“There are still many customers falling for this scam,” he said. The phone numbers are very difficult to trace (Majic Jack) or if they are traced, the numbers are from out of state. For more information or tips call Captain Kevin Marsee at 864-356-4112
