Scarecrow Decorating Contest announces winners

Williamston’s Scarecrow Decorating Contest has officially ended and winners announced this week. The “Scarecrows Spring to Life” contest/event is the first townwide promotion sponsored by the town’s Envision Williamston program.

“We had an amazing community response to the contest,” said Envision Williamston Executive Director Sonya Crandall. “The widespread participation suggests that the people of Williamston are eager to make their voices heard. They can be a powerful force in the town becoming a great place as a regional destination.”

EWlogoresThe scarecrow decorating contest is the first of many events and promotions being planned as part of the town’s revitalization and economic development program.

Envision Williamston is currently finalizing a comprehensive Community Master Plan to lay out short and long term goals for the town.

“We are so glad to have had such an amazing number of entries and votes,” Crandall said. “More than 40 scarecrows decorated the town from October 26th through November 15th. Over 970 votes were cast for the People’s Choice Award!”

A Judges’ Panel of experts judged the displays according to entry categories.

“Now that the tallies have been made, we are pleased to announce the results of this community-driven celebration of the Harvest Season!”
