One killed in Memorial Day crash

A motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 29 on Memorial Day resulted in a man’s death.
The accident occurred around 2:15 am. Belton EMS, Medshore EMS, Anderson County (Whitefield) Fire Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Don McCown, Senior Deputy Coroner identified the victim as Derrick Denzel Mack Mohrmann, 27, of Spartanburg. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene due to multiple traumatic injuries secondary to blunt force
trauma and was entrapped in his vehicle.
The investigation indicates that the decedent was the driver of a vehicle that was traveling south on Highway 29 North, traveled across the double yellow line and into the north bound lane. The victim’s vehicle then struck a 2016 Jeep in a head-on collision.
The victim was unrestrained in the vehicle. The fire department utilized the “Jaws of Life” to remove the victim from the vehicle.
The occupants of the other vehicle were uninjured.
The investigation is ongoing by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the
South Carolina Highway Patrol.
