The Williamston Freedom Celebration and Fireworks event was held Saturday, July 1 in downtown Williamston. The event included a Freedom Market, Golf Cart Parade, Bobbers on Big Creek Race, Freedom Games, Cruise-In, food, live music and fireworks.
Williamston Mayor Rockey Burgess said it was an “excellent event” and that there was “a good turnout” for it, despite a brief thunderstorm and winds that swept through the area late Saturday afternoon.
Burgess said the fireworks show went on as scheduled. “The fireworks were great, and the town was able to have even more due to a number of business sponsors that helped with the cost.”
Fireworks sponsors included: Palmetto Air Solutions LLC; Gray Mortuary; Kenneth Rhodes Insurance Agency; Charles H. Knight Real Estate; Purple Haze; The Metro Wireless Store; Hall Dentistry; Community First Bank; H & R Block; Saluda Quick Stop/BP; Maple Bakery; Waste Connections.
Other sponsors included Christina Ortiz-State Farm Insurance Agency sponsor of the golf card parade. Elysse Maddox and her husband Chase organized the Freedom Market.
A number of area businesses, members of the Palmetto Business Association, helped sponsor the Envision Williamston Bobbers on Big Creek event.
The Freedom Celebration is organized and sponsored by the Williamston Fire department, the Town of Williamston and Envision Williamston.
The Williamston Police Department also worked to keep everyone safe.
